| Hello everyone, I just got a new yorkie for christmas and I saw this forum so I decided to sign up. A little bit about myself: My name is Anna, I'm 20 years old college student, I have 2 dogs, One is a 3 year old havanese dog named Lila, and my second one is my 2 month old teacup Yorkie Loki. About Loki He is 2 months old, he's a biter ![]() But he loves to run around and play with his older sister. Doesn't like to sleep in his crate and wakes up every few hours to move around when it's bed time I guess that's basically it, any advise for me would be great. Thank you and i'm glad to be apart of Yorkie Talk |

| Welcome. There really is no such thing as a teacup it was a word made up by bad breeders to make money. Puppies who are taken from there mom to early ( before 12 weeks) normally have bitting issues because bite inhibition is something the mom teaches them. Most puppies wake up several times a night it's like having a new baby. Make sure the crate is where he can see you. Also only take him out to go potty and put him back. If you take him out every time he cries and play or kiss and hug him it will make him think if he cries he will get to come out. Since he is so young you also need to watch out for hypoglycemia.

| Welcome! Your baby is very much a baby. Probably teething, this is why you have lots of biting and chewing. Because he is a baby he probably doesn't want to sleep alone,he hasn't been away from his litter very long. I used to spend a good 40 min to an hour each night playing with my girl before bed. Set a bed time routine, PLAY, pottie time, probably a little snack. Don't expect your baby to sleep through night at this age, even many people babys don't sleep through the night at this age. Hopefully your baby will sleep for several hours, wake up for pottie ,maybe a snack due to young age and probable tiny size. Pups 3lbs and under need to fed very often to avoid hypoglycemia (sugar crash). There is a library here with information for new yorkie parents, with information about tiny ones as well. I hope that you will enjoy your baby as much as I enjoy and love mine. |

| Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hi - welcome to YT and CONGRATS - how exciting! You'll have to post some piccies when you have time. All of mine hate the crate, so I never used it as I don't believe in confining animals in small spaces if they don't like it / tolerate it. But some dogs do actually like it, so it just depends. I uses an Iris pen instead and it worked perfect.

| YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Hello and Welcome to YT. There is a ton of information here, in the library which is that blue box second one down when you come to the community. Lots of info for new puppy owners. your boy is quite young and will naturally be using his teeth a lot; teaching bite inhibition is something all new owners need to do. There are several methods used. Again in the library there should be an article on this; as well upteen threads on bite inhibition. You can do a search on here to find lots of interesting and informative threads

| Congrats! The best advice I ever got on raising a Yorkie was that their main objective is to train US... Since they are so small, Nutridrops and a good Vet who is familiar with the breed- Our last Yorkie was advertised as a 'Teacup' and ended up a healthy 9 lbs- This new guys at 5 months is 4.2...normal weight... They are naturally small, but grow QUICKLY! Good luck and welcome! We never used a crate for either of ours- you'll find they're pretty brilliant-but willfull! Take precautions if you have to leave him alone-and if you do use the crate, make sure its small enough so that he cant stick his head or a paw through the grating!

Breeders make a fortune selling these puppies for $1500. + and state they are teacup size. A friend bought a "teacup" Yorkie, and she now weighs weighs 10# ! The breeder told her that she fed the dog "TOO MUCH ?" | |

| Just so everyone understands I call my yorkie a teacup because it is still a baby for example my little teacup. I apologize to everyone who thought I meant a breeder kind of puppy. :-) sometimes I forget to explain what I mean I got my yorkie as a gift from a friend and he is my joy right now. Thanks again to all for the advice I appreciate it :-)
