YT 500 Club Member | How Often Do You Clean Ears I was curious if you clean your dogs ears. The vet said Sammie had an ear infection with bacteria. Only did the drops for a few days and he had a reaction to them so I had to stop them. When she redid his ears she said he had no bacteria and no mites. She feels his ears are itchy because she found real dry skin in there and black hard pebble stuff that she said was probably just dirt so clean them once a week. When she cleaned his ears for me he had no itching for a week but is now itching his ears again and I found the black hard pebbly stuff she was talking about. What do you clean your dogs ears with? |

| I bathe Peanut once a week and clean his ears with epi-otic after his bath. I also pluck any hair inside his ears at that time. Works really good and there isn't much hair in there to pluck out if done weekly. He just thinks it's part of his bath routine now. |

YT 500 Club Member | When my cat had ear mites it was more of a waxy black stuff and there was alot of it!! This is like maybe two little specs of black that are hard. No black on the ear flap itself you have to go way down to get to it. |

| We clean at each bath (usually once a week). We use Bio-Groom ear cleaner (liquid) and it's great.

| I use a flea comb daily on hair in and around the ear canal. This keeps the hair in the canal from growing too thick or harboring dirt or wax. I don't pluck all of the hair out. We clean ears once a week with a bath. If you are seeing black things, something is going on . . . especially with the itching.

| Could the black stuff be dried blood? |

YT 500 Club Member | The vet looked in his ears twice with a scope so I would hope she would see something and she said they looked good. I have to say my husband told me he was putting this powder stuff for ears for dogs to keep them clean in his ears and I was looking at the stuff and I think that is what I am finding. He said he was putting it in once a week. That might be the culprit!! |
