I use a flea comb daily on hair in and around the ear canal. This keeps the hair in the canal from growing too thick or harboring dirt or wax. I don't pluck all of the hair out.
We clean ears once a week with a bath.
If you are seeing black things, something is going on . . . especially with the itching.
