| Diarrhea and a long haired yorkie... Is this normal that after every poop I need to wash her butt?!! It gets stuck in her hair.. I have to wash her butt so many times, even in the middle of the night I have to get up which is driving me crazy. I can't even use baby wipes either because her butt won't get clean like that. This is the 3rd day but I took her to the vet and everything is okay, she gave me a probiotic for her. I really hope this goes away tomorrow. I have no idea what even triggered the diarrhea but what I do know is her butt is probably tired of being washed

| Teddy is over a year old and I still have to clean him in the way you're describing even though he's never had diarrhea. You're right, it is annoying. I have found the best way to manage the situation is to keep the area around his butt, tail and back legs very short and neatly trimmed so that minimal mess can stick around..if you know what I mean! |

| When one of our long haired pups has diarrhea we put pony tails on their hips to hold most of the hair back out of the way. The rest of the bum hair gets trimmed short.

I kept 2 in full coat, had to do the above, diarrhea was always a prob. big mess, the pony tails as suggested by BlueBelle sounds like a good idea, but butt area should always be cut as short as possible

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | With diarrhea, there is really not much you can do about the hair washing until the issue is gone...unless you want to shave. Did you get a fecal done and check for giardia?

| This is what I have done for Teddy when he was sick. I still needed to wash him, but the process was faster and Teddy didn't have to suffer as much.

| Guys thanks for the tip about putting up her butt hair. She also sleeps in my bed and she pooped on it in the middle of the night the other day because she was scared to jump down. She refuses to sleep in her bed while she has diarrhea.. sooo yeah, it was great changing the sheets in the middle of the night.. but as long as she gets better I'll take the poop sheets instead of her being sick. Today she is better, it is day 2 on the probiotic that the vet gave and her poop is firmer. I made her chicken soup with brown rice, I'm hoping the diarrhea will clear fully by tomorrow or I need to go back to the vet.

| What food does she eat normally? It may be the chicken soup and brown rice causing her diarrhea....hills i/d is great with the probiotics for tummy upset. Straightened winnie right out. Now we have her on the right food she's good. |

| Ohhh! Hope your baby is better really soon!! Hannah is in a long coat and although she's never had diarrhea she actually had a large lump of poo get stuck in her hair one time. I had to bath her right before bed time and poor girl that poo really bothered her. I had it happen to one of my other girls too and before I got home from work my mother in law had cut her hair to get it out. I was a little upset at first but her hair grew back really fast. I guess I need to add gloves to my list of doggie items needed in case it ever happens again! Nothing like trying to clean a potty butt! Baby wipes wouldn't even touch that and a wet rag made it worse! Since then I check their little booties everyday but you just never know!! It would take me longer to get Hannah's booty hair in a pony tail than to do a full bath and blow dry! LOL = Lots of Luck!!

| I feed her a home cooked diet but I actually posted a different post about when the diarrhea started, it was really random with no changes in her usual diet so I'm not sure how this all happened. By chicken soup I meant just chicken boiled in water and I give her the water with the chicken and rice.. a bland diet that I hope will end this diarrhea.
