Teddy is over a year old and I still have to clean him in the way you're describing even though he's never had diarrhea. You're right, it is annoying. I have found the best way to manage the situation is to keep the area around his butt, tail and back legs very short and neatly trimmed so that minimal mess can stick around..if you know what I mean!
