| ![]() It's pretty cheap to microchip. You pay once for the microchip and registration. Our shelter does it for like $15 and our vet did it for $25 I think.

| ![]() I have a slight collar obsession. So yes Jackson almost always wears collars so I can justify my expenses LOL... no, but I do take them off at nighttime though to go to sleep. I just feel it's more comfortable for him.

| ![]() I'm right there with you but I'm obsessive with them being thin and comfy too so she can sleep in them comfortably but I can hear the jingle if she gets up. Lol

![]() ![]() He sleeps in my bed 98% of the time, and my bedroom door stays closed so I know he doesn't go far.

| ![]() Penny is 7 months old now, but when she was really little we didn't put a collar on her in the house. I suddenly had a realisation that there is a tiny chance she could run out the house, the baby gate could be left open, I don't know. She wears a buddy belt harness when we go on walks but wears a collar at all times with her ID tags on it. It has a buckle but is thin and soft and properly fitted. We is microchipped but I feel like if someone found her, the chip wouldn't be their first thought, they would check the tag and just call me or bring her home. Plus it's an excuse to buy pretty collars for her ![]() |

| ![]() I keep a collar with ID tags and info. Microchipped for backup (be sure to register it) and then for neck safety during walks use a harness.

| ![]() Lacey has always worn breakaway cat collars with her ID tag. She is a would be escape artist. I live in an apartment and do have a gate at my front door, but twice I have been careless with the gate and the next thing I see is Lacey trotting down the sidewalk happy as can be. Also with apartment living, there are pest control and maintenance people that come in when I'm not there. I worry about them not shutting the gate and her running out when they open the door. I even take off from work if I know someone is coming in to my apartment for maintenance. Lacey getting out is one of my worst fears.

| ![]() I am going to give a resounding NO to the collar. I read this thread a couple of days ago. My husband had been wanting a neck collar for the id tag because we don't use the harness in the house and she sometimes tries to follow us out the door. I tried 4 different collars (even cat collars) and all of them were too big and she would put them in her mouth, get them stuck, etc. Yesterday I went to Petco and the sales assistant helped me find one that fit snugly. This morning she got it stuck between her back teeth and jawbone. The problem is it was so snug she couldn't get it back off. The look of panic in her eyes was terrifying as I am sure was the look in mine. Thankful that it was a collar with one of those black clips that you squeeze together to open. I was able to stick my fingers in her mouth to get it opened. The poor baby bit the heck out of my thumb in her panic but I don't blame her one bit. I for one will never use a neck collar again. Threw them all in the garbage. #1 new rule in our house is that baby never leaves the house without her harness and id tag. No exceptions. Will just have to train ourselves. |

Oh my goodness, that is so scary!! Glad you were able to get the collar out of her mouth safely. Poor Baby! Peanut only wears a collar on him when we are out of the house. He has a Buddy Belt that he will wear as well. When he was a puppy I tried the collar thing and the exact same thing happened to him that happened to your baby- I know the look of panic you’re talking about and it’s scary!! I trained him to accept the collar ( which I think is important)- and after that I always have taken it off when we’re home. Our babies that are tiny- it’s hard to find a collar that fits them. Peanut is 7 years and 4 pounds and it’s still hard to find collars that fit him well. His little neck is like a tiny chicken neck. I totally understand where you are coming from and you have to do what is best for YOUR baby- it doesn't matter what other people do with theirs. Personally I think having a collar on them at home is uncomfortable. Who wants to wear a collar 24/7 especially when they’re sleeping. How uncomfortable. If you’re a responsible pet owner you shouldn't have to worry about your pet getting outside- It’s all about being educated, knowing your dogs personally and behaviors. I would recommend getting pets Micro-chipped.
