YT 500 Club Member | So Overwhelmed I have to admit I am very overwhelmed with my new dog. I have had two german sheppards in my life and they where not as destructive as my 6 pound yorkie!! I never knew how devilish they are!! I have to watch him 24/7 which is impossible. Last night he was chewing something hard and I figured out it was the grout from my kitchen floor!! Then within seconds it was onto a rock from outside and then the bunny poop! It is non stop. One thing after another. I have tons of chew toys and regular toys on the floor all over the house. I am telling you he is more work then my daughter ever was!! Please tell me that they slow down as they age. He is only 8 months old |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | You have to remember he is a puppy . . I have an iris ex pen to put Galen in when I can not watch him. I sweep and check the floors before he goes around the house. I have cats so they get into stuff. I also check the ground outside making sure no mushrooms or poop. I personally thing because they are closer to the ground they find more stuff lol. . . Galen is going to be 2 in Nov. He is still going. But they do slow down when they are older. Good luck

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | I too would recommend an IRIS pen or to confine him a little when he is more on his own, to keep him safe, and you sane lol . Instead of chew toys, have you tried actual chews - like Munchy Stix or something? Something that has taste and can keep him busy? What about a Kong?

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | Oh yes a kong ! . . . You can put some peanut butter. Or plain pumpkin or even mix the two together or 1/2 plain yogurt and 1/2 plain yogurt. I have two. I stick them in the freezer. It lasts a little longer frozen. They love it

| lol, sorry to laugh, I was remembering my puppy days, my lil furbutts were so mischievous, no matter how many toys they had, or how much time I spent playing with them, they had to be watched like a hawk. If I couldn't see them that meant they were into mischief lol. My one puppy chewed 5 pairs of slippers lol, I had sliding doors on my bedroom closet where my slippers were kept, and the doors were fully closed. She found if she tap, tap, tap on the doors they would slightly open, then she could stick her muzzle into the crack and open the door to get to the prize behind the door lol, smart cute lil rascal that she was. All 4 of my pups all now past were always into mischief even up to 11 y/o, but I loved it all. You have to baby proof your house. The suggested ex-pen sounds ideal. Ya gotta love these lil yorkies.

| Hang in there! It gets better with each month and year. Max had me in tears several times when he was a pup. I didn't know how people kept these little guys alive. I agree with everyone above that an xpen when you can't supervise is helpful indoors. Outdoors, you have to be vigilant. Max and Teddy are now 5 and 6 and usually leave bad things outdoors alone, but I still have to keep an eye on them.

YT 500 Club Member | I have done the Kong and chewhides but he still wants everything he is not suppose to have. He just walks around constantly looking for stuff to get into!! You would swear he was on caffeine!! I think he drinks coffee when I am not home!! |

| I heartily support the xpen concept! P-Nut is 3 and Pickles is 2 - we pen them whenever they're not going to be supervised for a substantial length of time. Pickles is pretty good, but P-Nut does love to get into things. They do slow down eventually; P-Nut as a pup was like having an infant that very rarely slept or rested. I had no idea it was going to be like that! I taught the "leave it" and "drop it" commands which have proved to be invaluable, by the way. |

YT 500 Club Member | The thing is when we are not home he is a saint. He does not touch a thing. But when I come into the picture than watch out!! I would hate to have to put him in a pen when I am home with him. I understand he is just a puppy but come on can he sleep at least for a few hours to give me a break!! LOL |

| Do you take him for walks? Ali goes for a 2 or 3 mile walk every morning. Sometimes it's a 2 or 3 mile battle to keep her from tasting everything on the ground but it's getting better. |

| LOL, too cute! I know what you mean about being a saint when he is alone, and into trouble when you are there. Exercise helps. I think Max was in his second year, and we had added Teddy, when they started taking naps in the evening and I was able to do my own thing.
