| heparin shot Hi all my lil yorkie sophie has to get heparin injections twice a day subcutaneously and trying to get her to stay still for the shot is like pulling teeth. Ive tried wrapping her in a blanket with just the injection site exposed and the minute she feels me bunching up her skin to give the shot she loses it and manages to wriggle out and ive tried having someone hold her and she just squirms to much! I am at a loss here like i dont know what to do. any suggestions? |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Just wanted to tell you - I *totally* feel your pain! We had our Marcel allergy tested and tried to then give him shots - and we could NOT do it - and he's ONLY 3 pounds, and I'm a nurse, lol! He gets shots just fine at the vets - no prob; but if his Mom and Dad try to give him one at home, he loses his mind. We actually had to stop trying and went to sublingual drops. I feel so bad for you bc I know you have to find a way to do this. I'd keep trying - and keep going back to the vets for more lessons or whatnot. I hope others have more helpful suggestions for you.

| Exactly!! at the vet she was fine they even told me that she was great with the injections and hardly moved when they gave it and i shouldnt have a problem. Yea right!! i get her home and the first night i went 12 rounds with her just trying to give it to her. she is very fragile and only weighs 4 pounds so im trying to hold her but not use all my strength because i dont want to hurt her. For such a small thing she sure is a fighter! i have emailed the doctor to see if there is a pill that can do the same job as the heparin because i know she needs it but man i cant keep fighting her. i feel like its dangerous i might poke her wrong because she moves at the last minute. |

| Have you tried distracting her with treats or something good to lick (yogurt, peanut butter, coconut oil)? I'd also give her a very tasty, special treat when you're done. Try holding her different ways too, maybe let her stand on a table with someone holding her. Lola flips out if someone tries to hold her to clean her butt, but she'll stand perfectly still without a fight. |

| I, too was going to suggest having her on a table or countertop. It is the way I gave Bentley his shots holding his skin up in between his neck and shoulders.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Hope this works for you, by some miracle! We tried PB, cheese, distractions, restraint, and even numbing cream! To no avail. It's so frustrating. We could not even believe how strong he was when fighting the shots.
