Newborn yorkie Hello to all. I am very new here and I would appreciate your advices.. I have two adult yorkies, my boy "Skippy" (he is 10 years old), my girl "Bella" (she is 5 years old) and their baby "......No name yet .." ! Its a Girl and she is 11 days old !! Bella had 4 puppies but "thanks to a very "good" doctor" couldn't delivery them. He sent us to another facility...was time to close his vet office Saturday 3:30. He dont even check if her babies was alive. Any way when we arrived to the emergency clinic they told us that the puppies sorry but they doesn't make it and Bella need a C-Cesion to remove them. Next day Bella came home with her newborn puppy. Both girls doing fine now. The puppy gain weight, she born 4.2 oz and today is 11.2 oz! Now the Questions : When is better time for deworming ? For how long she will breast feed? When I have to start her puppy food and how will prepare it? (with milk or caned food?) Is it a problem if I will not remove her clew paws? (She is keeping her tail. Her father Skippy is from Australia and he has a full tail and is beautiful) Any advise will be more than welcome!! Best Vicky

Hi, I don't breed toy dogs, but with my cattle dogs, I deworm at two weeks old and then every two weeks afterwards. I start offering food at about 4 weeks, age depends on the pups, though. Some have no interest yet and some act as if they've been starved the whole time. For the first meals, I usually just mix ground beef with goat milk blended together until it it very smooth and liquid enough to be easily lapped up. As they get better at eating, I start offering high quality kibble soaked in warm water. As far as dewclaws and tails, I no longer remove those from my dogs. Turns out they actually use their declaws while working. I have also heard reports of a carpal tunnel like syndrome in dogs who have had their dewclaws removed. I don't know how true that is, but it makes some sense to me. Just make sure you remember to trim them regularly or if you go to a groomer, that they know to check for them. (Never hurts to make sure they've been trimmed when you pick her up from the groomer). Overgrown declaws, well overgrown claws no matter their location can cause painful issues. Best wishes with your new baby!! (pictures, please)

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | I am sorry Taylor but I have to disagree with you. . . You do not have to remove the dewclaw. It is actually used to prevent torque when running. I know breeders who keep dew claws on. And actually Galen has his dew claw. I groom him everyday and never have a problem. Here is an article about dewclaws. http://theilovedogssite.com/the-dewc...-or-lose-them/

At 12 days old, she's too old to have it done the way it could have been done at 3-5 days old. At this point, removal will be a surgery with all the inherent anesthesia risks. I suppose it could be done when she is altered, but I seriously will not do my dogs and *knock on wood* have never had an issue. I do make a point to check and trim them as needed, which may need trimming more often than nails in constant contact with the ground, although, I am guessing Yorkies are too small to really wear their own nails down. Just get into a habit of filing them when you brush her. Ok, a beautiful, singleton girl - she needs a very special name, maybe something along the lines of a precious jewel or something. She's a gorgeous pup!

Why are you breeding when it is obvious you know nothing about it. Get your dogs spayed and neutered!
