| YT 2000 Club Donating Member | Well I was confused too, but with a smile I realize how great it is, that threads do take interesting twists n turns. Surely I am not the only one with a Yorkie who is not the smartest tack in the box

| i have been trying to train maggie, but the only things she will do regularly are the things she has taught me! lol. For example, ever since the day got her, when we come into the kitchen though my back door (from the yard), she goes right to the stove and waits to have her harness taken off. Well ok then! However my attempts to train at anything else leave her looking at me like im crazy. Lucky for me shes very laid back and a sweetie

| Dinky is "book smart" but not "street smart." he can do puzzles and tricks, but he can't figure out that the dog next door is a gentleman that means no harm and would like to play. |

Toby to a T, so it seems there is another Toby here in your yorkie, tell me has it ever appeared as though Jackson can tell the time, is there anything peculiar he will do when he thinks he is going for a walk, anything that he picks up on that so invites him outside, anything that will make him remain inside? Loving this little yorkie of yours did you know his parents, if so, were they clever too? Intuition rather than what you teach him shows a degree of intelligence that in my opinion is beyond doubt in the intelligence stakes. I had a sheep dog [Border Collie] for a good few years and yes it was clever [3rd or 4th in the hierarchy of intelligent breeds] but honestly it was not half as sharp to pick up on things as Toby is, and he still shows this ability at nine years of age..

| Piper is selectively 'smart.' She becomes sad and retreats if I ask her to sit. However, when I stood outside of the screen door and told her to back up, insisting she do so before I'd come inside, she was backing up the third time I asked! |

| Stitch showed signs early on for high intelligence, i used to play 3 card monte with my daughter for fun, one day she decided to hide a treat in one cup while stitch watches n its unreal, the dog will choose a cup with her paw, but if shes wrong she sits n growls waiting for the cups ro be shuffled, each time ahes wrong she gets more vocal, sometimes shaking, then when she gets it right she attacks the treat, sits down rdy to play again. She was still very young when this began, now she does just about every trick we can find, we leave scent trails to hidden treats, other puzzles, watches tv, and is responcible for grand theft wheelchair, i let her ride me with alot around the house, went for a nap, my daughters yells woke up n my chir was gone, she went straight to the livingroom n promptly crashed into a wall, now i disengage the motors when its not in use, altho i gotta laugh now, my kid said she was sitting there watching tv, when stitch came thru the door full speed n slammed into the wall then ran for cover. After a few moments of shock she began hollerin to make sure the dog was ok, then drove my chair back to me so i could help. She just looked at me all wide eyed daddy u just dont see a dog driving a wheelchair everyday, i couldnt move to help b4 she hit the wall lmao. No injuries, but stitchs ingenuity has led to several rule n lifestyle changes. The mischievious toddler is how she acts. And tho she makes sure my life revolves around her, and its a train wreck most of the time, shes absolutely perfect for us heh. Ask mr one day n maybe ill tell the story of the ex's shoe/boot collection, and how stitch plots revenge. Now im serious if the dog deserves trouble she wont retalliate, but if she is innocent, god have mercy, cause that dog is coming lol. Plus she is responcible for making a college professor change his tune about this subject vs learned behavior. He left the class n said ok as a human being u win, but i got to teach it as the book states it. |

He can find and retrieve a treat like a little Houdini, but he knows only two other tricks-sit, circle. He is a champ at potty training. Otherwise, he gets confused by games we try to play with him, and he can't tell a friend from a threat. We love him to pieces. | |

| I think Yorkies are generally smart. They are after all ranked 27th on the Stanley Coren's Intelligence Dogs List. I think they are so smart that they can think for themselves and gets bored really fast in general. They also need a little more mental stimulation because of the boredom issue. At least that is the problem I have with Pao. He gets bored easily and I constantly have to find ways to stimulate his mind. Once, I fell down the stairs and couldn't get up and was trying to get my husband to help but he was upstairs in the bathroom, Pao actually knew what I needed and ran upstairs to try to get help for me . Maybe it was intelligence or its pure love, I do not know.
