| Anyone have a dog with kcs My dog has kcs and Sjögren's syndrome, he is not a candidate for the surgery because he doesn't make normal saliva either. He always seems to have a hard time with the change of seasons, but this time its way worse. He is on tacrolimus 2x a day but we added a third time per the eye specialist. I also use sustain drops, pure food grade mineral oil, genteal, and B andL soothe ointment. All approved by the eye specialist. Nothing seems to be helping him. The eye specialist is out of town until Tuesday we have an appointment then. My regular vet doesn't treat his eye condition we have always gone to the eye specialist as he was always getting infections. He has no infection no discharge at all and his cornea is clear just dry. I have a humidifier on in the room he is in. He is eating ok but won't use the steps and doesn't want to go outside. I feel so bad for him. Any suggestions would be great. |

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | My Wylie has dry eye and his Ophthalmologist prescribed Optimmune ointment (cyclosporine ointment) and it's made a HUGE difference...have you tried that yet? If you do try it, buy it from Drs. Fosters and Smith -- where it was a 1/3rd of the price I paid at the Opth's.

| I had also tried the cyclosporin drops in Majic's eyes. Majic lost his ability to make tears as a result of the parvo virus settling in his tear duct glands....it became brutally clear there was really nothing we could do to restore function to his tear ducts. So we do eye care at least 3-6 times a day, and I also use the Genteal drops three times a day. I use Gentamycin drops in between the ointments and eye washes..... and I also use Terramycin ointment last thing at night. Majic, thank goodness, is doing very well, and his eyes stay lubricated and clear and sharp. His eye sight so far, has apparently not been affected, and this has been a daily ritual for about 10 years now. While it will not "fix" the problem, it manages the symptoms very well. Majic loves to have warm washes/compresses over his little eyes for a couple of minutes each morning...then we start with the drops and ointments. I did get a prescription for .....?? Lacricet ??? from a cancer doctor I knew from work. Those are tiny little things the size of a grain of short grain rice, and you put it inbetween the lower eyelid and the eye ball. It is designed to slowly disolve over 12 hours all during the day, keeping the eye lubricated. The problem is he rubs his face all down into the pillows and blankets on my bed, and he would dislodge the tiny granule. I was afraid he was going to scratch his cornea so I stopped using that. I had used it years ago on another one of my dogs that suffered dry eye, and she did very well with the procedure and never dislodged it. |

| Teddy has qualitative and quantitative KCS. We use cyclosporin A 1% aqueous solution twice a day to one eye and once a day to the other. He is doing great on it and his tear production has improved. He is seeing the ophthalmologist next month so hopefully will have another good visit. I wish I had some suggestions for you.
