| Advise Long story short, We had 2 yorkie but had to put one down last year due to age of kidney failure. we still have our little girl, Holly which is now 8 years old and we have thought about getting another one but have some concerns and questions. Since Holly has now had all the attention for over a year, how would she take to having a puppy around?? Also someone told me that since she is an adult female, might not be a good idea on getting another female. Your comments please! Was also told by a breeder, that she does not crop the tail anymore because it is part of the spine and could cause problems. Any thought on this. Thanks in advance!! | I have three females and they are fine together. Rosie was the only dog for a long time but adjusted well to her sisters. Beasiegirl on here added another female when Beasley was 9 years old. They have done great together. So yes I think it is very doable. Rosie was 7 when I brought Lily home. I think Lily has made her "young" again. I wouldn't trade my three girls for anything. Not sure about the tail. Lilys was cropped but it was done by a vet. Haven't heard anything about not doing them.

| The thing about not docking the tails is bothersome because reputable breeders breed to better the breed and have it as close to standard as possible. I don't think docking tails causes any actual problems unless done wrong.

| I'm sorry to hear about your past loss. Holly might need some time adjusting to having a new sibling around, but within time they will become the best of friends. I'd suggest introducing them on neutral ground, somewhere that Holly doesn't claim as hers. I've heard that females tend to get along better with other females and it would be a male who might not take to another male. All in all it would more so depend on the dog and their personality. As for tail docking, Teddy's breeder docked his tail. I also don't think tail docking would cause any real problems unless done by the wrong person. |

| At one time I had 3 females all 3 years apart, the 2 oldest ones were not spayed, the baby was. With each new baby it took the older one to adjust to a bouncy kid. they all got along just fine, never a fight or a growl between them. The 2 older ones past, the baby was now 9 y/o, I got her a play mate after 7 months of her getting all the attention. She LOVED her new sister.I agree it's doable. Not knowledge about not docking the tail.

| Hello, I'm not sure about a second dog so I will only comment on tail docking. I am from the States where I know a lot of procedures are the "norm" with respect to body parts being removed from animals. I now live in England and I have learned that in most countries (on this side of the pond, anyway) tail docking, declawing cats, removing teeth from animals so they don't bite etc. may be beneficial or aesthetically pleasing to humans. However, there is absolutely no benefit to the animals and is viewed as cruelty. I'm of the opinion that if the removal of a body part isn't necessary for health reasons then there is no reason it should be done. Good luck on your new puppy search! |

| I just introduced a wonderful little 11 week old male to my 8 yr old male, he's been the only dog for 7 yrs and it's going absolutely great! He has really taken to his little brother, he watches over him especially when the cats get close to the baby. He gets between the cats and baby until he sees that the cats aren't acting aggressively towards the little guy. Sure the older yorkie gets mad when his tail or ears get nipped by the puppy but he lets him know when he's not happy but he's gentle with the puppy. He's been very good with sharing his toys, food, and home. I was definitely concerned with introducing a new yorkie but I have not changed his routine and make sure to always greet him first when I come home and to give him plenty of attention too. It's gone so much better then I could ever had imagined. Good luck and I hope you find a wonderful baby. |
