New Puppy! Hi I just got my first yorkie puppy and was curious about a few things. She came from a family member that didn't want her anymore so I took her in. She's 21 weeks old and very large for her age. I was curious about her hair type. It's coarse but also kind of soft. It's also thin. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to tell what her coat type would be at this age or not. Or if she was a "red legged" yorkie. I added a picture of her thanks!

| Congratulations on the new addition to your life! She is adorable and looks like a sweetheart. What is her name? I would guess not a red-legged Yorkie. They often have very short fur on their legs that is really reddish looking. Coat type can sometimes be difficult to determine at such a young age. Cotton coat Yorkies tend to have very thick hair, especially on legs and paws. Silkier coats can start out thin an be slower growing. It's fun to watch them change during the first year or two.

Thank you! Her name is Reese, like a Reese cup. And she is a sweetie! She's very mellow compared to another yorkie I've been around, he was hyperactive all the time, she's just puppy hyper at times. I am familiar with the cotton coat from puppy to adult, but not the other coat types.

Well she's very cute with those floppy ears :-) congrats! Do you have any idea what her parents looked like? It's not always for sure but just an insight. How much is she weighing at 21 weeks now?

I don't have a clue what the parents looked like. I'd estate she weighs around 8lbs right now. She was said to be a tea cup yorkie but I think she passed that stage with flying colors! Haha

Congrats on your puppy! Reese is absolutely adorable. I almost named my boy that since that's my favorite chocolate If you have an idea of what her parents look like it might help you, but it's never for sure sometimes. Either way, she's a cutie!

Haha well she's a very sturdy girl! There's nothing wrong with that ;-) unfortunately....teacup is just a word used to charge more money for the pup (if she was originally purchased through a breeder). Yorkies are a toy breed....a yorkie is a yorkie. That's it. There are yorkies above or below the standard akc has set....but it doesnt make them any less yorkie :-) She may have been the smallest in the litter...so they called her "teacup" .... she sure showed them didn't she! Her little face though....I'm sure she uses that cuteness to her advantage! Mine does!!

I've read in different places that if a yorkie has a bit of white on them then they will have a good coat. Is this true? Reece has a white chest and the tips of her back feet are white.
