| Is my pup normal My baby Ella is 12 wks yesterday and she went to the vet today and weighs 2lbs. She has only gained 1 ounce since I toolk her last? Is she running to much that shes burning off the energy? Whats the avg weight for a yorkie at 12 wks? Also, her fur is knotting all over. I try to brush her everyday but its a real battle. Is she too young to get groomed? I am so afraid to take her to the groomers from all the horror stories I have heard, any advice? She also hates to be bathed, shower or sink she hates both.. One more thing, I live in mi where it is freezing so I try to put clothes on her and she goes crazy and will get her paws out of them, I really want to keep her warm when she goes out, will she ever get used to getting dressed? Thanks so much yorkie mom in training |

| My oldest Chloe is 6 months now but when we brought her home at 12 weeks she weighed 2 lbs. I have a younger one Daisy who is 15 weeks and she weighs 2 lbs 14 oz. So yes I would say that you baby is just fine. As far as the grooming good luck bc both of my girls hate to be brushed and bathed and it is a fight for me to get clothes on them but once they are on they keep them on so I dont know what to tell you. She should get used to it eventually. Congrats on your new baby you will have lots of fun.

| They can gain weight in spurts but 2lbs sounds like a good weight for 12 weeks. Your supposed to double that weight to get the final weight so that means she will be 4lbs a small yorkie. I would imagine small yorkies dont eat as much. As far as her coat it could be a cotton coat and thats why its mattign it could be the puppy coat only time will tell. I think its too soon for a groom though. I got my dogs groomed the first time about 4 months after they were done with all shots. She will get used to clothing the more you put it on.

| I wouldn't worry about her weight. She's at a normal weight for her age and because she's a baby her weight will change a lot within the next few months. As for her hair, my one yorkie Bella always has tangles because her hair is more cotton then my other Yorkie whose hair is really silky. It's just the type of hair she has (maybe get a leave in conditioner or detangler) and make sure you brush her hair every day so the tangles don't get out of control. If you really want to get her groomed i would stay with her if you can because she is kind of young but you said it's really cold where you are so i wouldn't get her groomed until it worms up a little so she can keep her winter coat for warmth. Try and make her bath times fun and maybe just put a little water in the sink at first and let her get use to her feet/legs getting wet. To keep the clothes on, at first i would put a shirt on them and then put on their harness so they wouldn't be able to get their legs out of their shirt. They would get use to their harness at the same time. Eventually i wouldn't put their harness on over their clothes and they would leave their clothes on. Good luck

YT Addict | Yorkie's do not have the under coat like many other breeds so i would advise waiting until spring before making the trip to the groomer, gives you time to check out the groomers in your area also. And hopfully she'll get use to a warm sweater or coat, wouldn't take her outside in cold weather without one is my advise. We had our little one with us at the lake here in Arizona in the winter without and she was so cold one nite she was beside herself, finally got smart and stuffed her down inside in my sleeping bag and that solved the problem. Next day left for home rather than run the risk of her getting sick.

| I don't know about your little Yorkie - but mine had the worst puppy hair in the world. It was absolutely awful. Believe me, I cut this stuff of as fast as it grew out. And, the hair that has come in after the baby hair is much nicer and much more manageable. My pup is only 16 weeks old now - his baby hair is gone, and his new coat is great! I can actually easily get a comb through it easily now and it's straighter and very pretty. Also - it is mostly a gray/silver color ---not black like his puppy hair was. Should mention also that my pup's hair grows very fast, and he has never been to a groomer. Carol Jean |

| Peawee weighed 2lbs. 3oz. at 12 weeks. I think this is pretty normal. Good luck on the grooming they do get use to it.

| It sounds like your pup is a healthy weight and will probably end up a nice standard size Yorkie, though maybe on the small side. My pup doesn't have hair that tangles so I can't help you there. It sounds like you are dealing with a cotton coat which takes more care. You may decide to keep her in a puppy cut if that is the case. as far as clothes go get her a soft sweatshirt or sweater (no hood) and make sure it isn't too big! she will keep it on and it will keep her warm. good luck. |

YT Addict | Speaking of hoods we bought our little one her own parka ,yeah she wasn't to crazy about the hood but the coat kept her nice and warm. We do love playing dress up don't we. lol
