Thank you all so much. She brightened up when Irina got home, no more stomach problems (we're starving her for 24 hours). Still little puddles, always near her usual tray. Apparently she got really upset when my wife mildly rebuked her and went off to sulk. Tonight she's been with Dad late on, glued to me like a sticky candy bar! Our neighbors popped up earlier for an update and said how miserable she always looks when I'm not home or around? A few months ago (for those that haven't read about this) I suffered a heavy fall, whilst we were out on one of our walks. My fault I'm seventy next year and getting ready to 'conk out' I think? She was apparently, defending me fiercely from the paramedics etc, whilst I was unconscious and very supportive when I came round. Tonight in response to the neighbors remarks above, Irina went and fetched a little poem I wrote one afternoon whilst recovering from the trip, festooned in a blanket and sat in a wheelchair on our balcony with Crystal guarding me! Irina had been upset that I'd thought our little girl had turned against me when she bared her teeth after her tummy upset around 2 0'clock! Actually nothing was further from the truth, I'd merely left her alone in Mom's room to have her own space and enjoy her usual PM siesta! Anyway at her insistence I've put it on here for you all to read...

(who knows perhaps the fall had more affect than is physically apparent)

I know you find it upsetting that she snapped at you but she may be in a little pain. She has had major surgery and some days the pain if uncomfortable just as in humans. The discomfort after surgery seems to be worse on damp and rainy days.
Call your vet and make him aware of what is going on and if Boris's twin is there make sure you talk to the vet.
It's poured on and off all day and been dank and miserable too!

I took samples last night just in case I have to take her in Monday. I can bypass 'Doris' now, who I think is actually a very caring lady, but not that polished in customer relations. It's gone 4.20pm this side and I just can't sleep, so catching up on here to hopefully tire me out. Good job I never had children, I'd have been a useless Dad...

Such a beautiful poem, and so true...it's so clear that you and Crystal have an amazing bond!

Thank you, Yes we are pretty close now after 13 months constantly together. When I first saw her funny little face on the 'pre-loved' site where I first found her, I knew then 'she's for me'.

I'm so sorry for your recent loss to, please accept my deepest sympathy

Default Condition update 10am

Still being starved until 2pm (3 hours away), she looks at me as if I'm the 'Suprema' of The Spanish inquisition presently! Her Mom's at work today, so yet again I'm getting all the fall-out! She's not repeated the Diarrhea and if she is 'sly-peeing' I can't see it anywhere. She's in good form, eyes bright as buttons. Amazingly she's only lost 6ozs since the op through all this trauma (was 7lbs). This is only the sixth day since the spey, so perhaps as a man, I was being typically guache in expecting an uneventful recovery.

I won't expect too much, even with this apparent improvement? However we are only going to feed her chicken and rice, maybe a little sweet potato and then only by one tablespoon, every two hours. Last time she ate more fully of this vegetable (post diarrhea), her motion was overcorrected and she only seemed to deposit half size offerings (like 45 calibre shells), the little meanie.

I think she's forgiven me though? When I apologised (for the umpteenth time, yet again this morning for her indisposition) at least I got a long sideways head stare and then a big slurpy kiss! (or was she really thinking of breakfast)

Any views out there about a little walk - if it ever stops raining on our East coast?

Hi Doc,

I'm glad to read that your beautiful baby is becoming increasingly better but this weather makes it challenging for a walk!!

Leicestershire is abysmal at the minute so my little cotton is not going anywhere in this as he'd soak the rain up like a mop!

I think light exercise would be okay but probably not a taxing jaunt...let her be your guide today

Thanks 'Sir T', It's horrible isn't it and the humidities so high too? I'm right on the sea front here and the atmosphere is a sort of 'North Sea gloop' at the moment. I'll wait and see if it at least dries up and then try her. I'll take her little over shoulder carrier, bit like a carry cot, then if she's gets fatigued, I can give her a lift back?

Default Crystal

Poor little baby, she sure is having a tough recovery from the spay surgery. Perhaps her little tummy is still delicate and she needs a very bland and easy to digest diet for a while. The chicken and rice usually does the trick.
I feel for you in the grim English weather, but I am sure it will change as soon as it came! Crystal, and you, would probably appreciate a short seaside stroll, it does wonders for the soul. Praying she continues on this positive path and gets well again soon. Hopefully you will be able to get a good night's rest too!
Best wishes and hope this stressful period is soon over. :-)

Hi doc. The peeing after a spay is pretty normal. Cookie peed herself a few times those first 3-4 days or so, and she was 8 months old at the time. So I wouldn't attribute it to having an adult pup. The diarrhea? Maybe not. From what I have read, yorkies should never eat pork. Sounds like you're doing a great job with the chicken and rice though! Give Crystal a nice hug for me!

Your poem is beautiful, and so is the love you have for Crystal. A short walk should be fine once it clears. The fresh air, even though it's humid, might be good for both of you, and the sea is so rejuvenating. I hope you have fully recovered from your fall.

So sorry about your fall... ouch; hope you are recovering well. It sounds like Crystal is getting back on track with her recovery too.

I think a little outdoor time would be good for both of you, weather permitting. Exposure to different sights and sounds is so refreshing after sitting inside staring at each other for several days.

Thanks everyone. She's had chicken every few hours and so far a score draw! Poop 0 Diarrhea 0 (after 8 hours from first feed). She is back to her normal mischevious, self though, as wanting to gnaw my hand off shows. Still intermittently peing in liitle puddles on the floor. I'm afraid Irina is upset with me over these indiscretions, 'ruining a perfect dog' was her last rejoinder, several hours ago. I still believe that once these problems clear away, the restriction of latter day cancers is worth it all?

So tonight - I'm in the dog house...

She has had diarrhea and been fasting for 24hrs, just returning to chicken which is protein (lacks fiber) so there is little to pass. I'm sure your vet told you that if she tolerates the feedings with out further diarrhea that you can increase and move her back to her previous diet (not the ham etc). If she is truely having constipation you can add a teaspoon of pumpkin (pure pumpkin not pumpkin pie filling) to her food.
I'm sorry you are in the dog house! You are a caring yorkie parent and I'm sure Crystal feels your love and is grateful to have you caring for her. Take a deep breath and don't blame yourself.

Default I feel your pain

So sorry you are going through this; they are our babies and we hate when they are not feeling well. I had my two puppies spayed on July 3rd and we are finally off house arrest as of yesterday. I had a vet come to the house (with a camper) and she used a laser to do the surgery. The good (and the bad) news is that the laser kills the nerve endings so the girls felt no pain after the surgery. As soon as she was finished she wrapped each girl in a towel I had warmed in the dryer and we brought them in the house. They were perfectly fine as soon as the anesthesia wore off. It was extremely hard, especially with two, to keep them as still as possible for 10 days. You would never know they had surgery and they are back to being the same mischievous girls they were before. I hope your baby heals soon also. BTW; I had major misgivings about doing it as I couldn't get past the thought of who am I to be making this decision for my girls. I went back and forth about it for several weeks and decided it is the best for their overall health.
