What would YOU do? I had a pet emergency this morning after a nite mare nite of walking the floor with Zoey. She couldn't find a spot to lay still in all night, wouldn't eat her supper, and started vomiting white foam this morning and pooped black and tarry.... I called my vet (who I have only had since I got Zoey 10 months ago.)and No VOICE MAIL AVAILABLE! I made sure when I went with her that she told me she was available for emergency calls!! And I get a recording?!?! I am furious!! I mean at this point Zoey was lethargic and I didn't have a vet.... Idid call my sons dog vet a stretch away and they came in town right away and treated her.and I wasn't even a patient of theirs!! Should I see what they have to say for themselves or just switch? Zoey is resting better after getting fluids intravenous and a shot for nausea , and pills sent home and diet instructions. Now I have no clue what brought this on! Something outdoors, and she is only on grass long enough to exercise 2 times a day and we keep her moving and watch her constantly... |
It could have been something as simple as the receptionist forgot to set the phone system to transfer to the Answering Service or got knocked off through a line surge or something and that even happens with human doctors' offices but I'd at least want to know why they weren't answering their phone if you have been otherwise happy with that vet's services. Everybody probably deserves a second chance if they haven't ever failed you before but if this is number two or three mess-up, I'd change vets. And that vet needs to know his service wasn't picking up for some reason and fix that issue, especially since you were assured he covered off-hour emergencies before you gave him your business. I hope little Zoey is going to be okay. Hopefully in a day or two she'll be feeling much better and back to normal very soon. |
I think you should first find out why you got a recording before making any change decisions. What was the dx for little Zoey? |
Agree with the others. Let the vet know why you are upset and see what they say. In the meantime I would try out the other vet. Sounds like they really came thru for you. |

They also gave me mefronidazole, antibiotic....to give for 5 days, 25 mg Ohhhhh:(. Her first prescription drug , hate side effect warnings.... Here's to trusting a new vet , but these guys came with rave reviews from someone else. |

Whenever I hear foaming vomit and tarry stools I fear pancreatitis since my Zoey has had that twice. My vet always does blood work to confirm. |

I would find out from my vet. However, if they don't do emergency visits I would use the other vet. I can't tell you how many times my vet has had to meet me on holidays or weekends. So that is a very important point with me. I'm glad the other vet helped you when it was needed! |
