How do I know if my Yorkie is pure bred?

I'm able to look at their pedigree which is registered with AKC all the way back to 98, my puppy is AKC registered, came home at 11 weeks because he was ready, was given first two vaccines at a vets office, came home with all heath records as well as a weekly growth chart, and he has a 1 year health guarantee. I understand several people on here have their opinions of breeders that sell for less than a thousand but it doesn't take away from the quality of the dog. Kudos to those who pay that much.

To the original posters question...I doubt you'll be ever to get your money back. Did you sign a contract? Even if you did though it doesn't sound like they'd be willing to give you money back.

VERY true. This is why you should trust your breeder 100%. Get to know the breeder first then
get your puppy.

A reputable breeder knows more about the lines then just there blood lines they know what size puppies the lines have and if any health issues run in them. You didn't say anything about genetic and health testing? Reputable breeders also follow the mother club of yorkies which is The Yorkshier Terrier Club of America and they say a pup should not go home before 12 weeks. It's not about the price but reputable breeders do charge over a thousand and then they still don't break even so it's not like there making money they are breeding to better the breed. I have yet to see a puppy from a reputable breeder that was less then a thousand dollars not that they don't exists I just haven't seen one

I agree with Matese that $600 for A Yorkie in NY/New England where the asking price is for a Yorkie is much higher than almost anywhere else in the country -- this is not a quality breeder. All pups are adorable, and the puppy in your pictures may be a full bred Yorkie, but she is 'off standard' for a Yorkie in terms of size, head, and maybe coat. I would ask to see the parents and top priority would be a health guarantee -- and whether or not you think this breeder will stand behind the guarantee.

At this young age it's hard to tell if it's a mix unless you are very familiar with the breed. The pics you may be looking at could be show quality puppies. The puppy you are planning on getting is not show quality it's just 2 ppl mating their dogs, chances are the parents are pure yorkie.To me seeing the mom and dad dog don't mean a thing, they both could be mixed them selves. There will be other members responding to your question. If there is a doubt in your mind, I would not get that pup. If you get it, you will love it regardless what it is. BTW $600. for a "mutt" is not a lot of $. Today "mutts" are called "designer dogs" and go for bigger bucks then $600. A BYB will tell you they are selling their puppies at low price because they have no AKC papers, I wish you much luck.

I wrote that I agreed with you that a pure breed, well bred Yorkie puppy in NY would cost much more than $600.

The price of one would be much higher than $1,000 to $1,200 in New England. They are usually over $2,000.

Elsewhere, a show breeder will often charge $1,800 for girls and $1,600 for boys.

It is possible to find good prices from good breeders if a person is patient and shops around. Max was reduced in price because he was larger than his littermates, larger than standard.

However, when the price is ridiculously low, the breeder is cutting corners. No one would operate at a substantial financial loss to produce Yorkie puppies.

it annoys me when im outside and people ask me if she's pure or not. she's quite large and i cut her hair which make her look a little weird
