| New yorkie owner... Hello! I'm a new member and a first ever puppy/yorkie owner. I had always had cats before, but now I decided to bring someone a little less "indiferente" to my life. I have been reading posts like crazy looking help since I'm new to all this. And I'm looking for tips and support. I live in Chile and I got my puppy at 7 weeks. And yes I know NOW after reading the forums that this is a big no-no. So please don't insult or scold me. I have punished myself enough with guilt and I didn't know about the rule and obviously the owners who sold him to me didn't either. But I can't send him back if they're ignorant breeders. So...what I'm asking for is any tips on the do's and don't's in a situation such as this. Playing, potty training, walking, feeding etc. Any help would be appreciated. I hope to do a good job and treat my new baby well. |

| I do not have any advice on puppies. I will get my first one in June. My other girls were older when I got them. However I did want to say congrats and welcome to YT. I have learned a lot here myself. Yes 7 weeks is very young. But at this point move forward and do what's best for your new baby.

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk and congratulations on your first Yorkie. Since he is so young, I would wait to take him walking until he has had his puppy vaccinations. I would also use potty pads indoors for potty training until he is a little older. For food, I would continue feeding whatever his breeder used. I would feed him at least 4 times a day or have kibble available for him at all times. When puppies are that young and small, they should not be over-handled or played with too much. Allow him plenty of time to rest. Hypoglycemia is the primary concern.

| Welcome! I agree with the other posters. Keep Nutrical on hand and make sure you know the signs of hypoglycemia. No walks until he has all of his shots. Puppy pads for now. Limited, gentle play. You'll do fine!

| Welcome to YT and congrats on your new baby, you have chosen an awesome breed. My advise, follow all of the above members advise, mine would only be the same. Getting all puppy shots before taking him out is imperative, the most important thing to do first.Good luck with your new lil boy.

Make sure you're feeding him every 3-4 hours, or free feeding. Watch for signs of hypoglycemia and have Nutrical on hand for that. If people come over to the house, have them wash their hands before handling him - you don't want them bringing in too many germs to his under developed immune system. Keep him inside until his puppy vaccines are complete.

YT 1000 Club Member | Have nutrical, limit the number of ppl handling him until he is vaccinated. Also, I wouldn't walk him until he's completely vaccinated. Feed every three hours as other posters have stated or free feed. Continue to feed what breeder has then gradually change to different food if you choose. How are you enjoying having a puppy vs the cats you've previously had? Welcome to Yt! |
