| "Chewing" when nothing is in her mouth + blood on toothbrush.. loose baby teeth? Since yesterday, I've noticed that Chloe has been "chewing" on the left side of her mouth when nothing is there. She has been doing it more often today so I thought maybe she has something stuck in her tooth so I brushed her teeth but I noticed a small amount of blood on the brush. She just turned 6 months, is this a sign of a loose baby tooth?

| Sounds like it. That's how it was when Cookie was losing her baby teeth at the same age.

| Yorkies are prone to baby teeth being retained. Any retained puppy teeth will need to be remove for proper oral health. Usually this is done during their spay. If they are not removed it can lead to bigger issues like adult tooth decay. All of mine had at least one baby tooth removed.

| Oh right! How could I have forgotten. Then I will change my advice. She will need to be put under if her baby teeth do not come out on their own. There's a great article about anesthesia for when that time comes.

| How is it criticism to inform you that your dog may have periodontal disease later if retained baby teeth are not removed? These teeth are routinely removed during a spay, which you're not doing, so it was very relevant to answering your question. Also, you're not a moderator so if you feel that there is a problem with a post you should report it rather than try to censor the membership. Have a nice evening

| How is what I said to you "an intentional snide remark" I gave you advice based on the idea that most people spay. I was reminded that you had previously said you were not spaying then gave you information on another thread about anesthesia. I am just confused since I was just offering help. How else would the teeth come out if they are not removed under anesthesia?

| I don't think she did at all. She directed you to info about anesthesia because when Chloe needs those teeth out you'll want to study up. Not all vets or anesthesia protocols are created equally as I'm sure you know from medical school. Many Yorkies have retained baby teeth and they can rot inside the jaw. They are taken out when the animal is altered, or when they later absess on an emergency basis in intact animals who owners were too afraid or otherwise unwilling to alter them. That is a fact, it's not a criticism. We want you to have information, even if you don't listen. It's not in your interest to shut down knowledgable members but if you want to, you can use the ignore feature. We feel like we must post in these threads for everyone who may be reading them. Do you want us to walk on eggshells or give you info???

| In no way shape or form were her remarks snide. She just informed you what would have to be done IF the baby teeth didn't fall out. SMH !!!!

Not only will bad teeth stink, but the bacteria that builds up will make the dog sick, esp if the dog is small. Another one of our fosters named Safari had such terrible teeth her mouth reeked of death. She finally had pretty much all her teeth removed. http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...ri-update.html
