I don't think an additional class of Yorkies is necessary. Larger Yorkies pop up out of litters the same way tinies do -- maybe not 17 pounds, but larger. You can find good breeders with larger Yorkies, but it takes a little extra looking.

I agree. I like the standard where it is. There will never be a shortage of larger yorkies, as they happen often.

My two at 6 and 5 pounds are the perfect size for me. I carry them around at the same time and it is easy enough for me to do it. If they were much larger, I would not be able to take them both everywhere like I do.

Trust me... If he does get bigger than you want, it will NOT matter to you.... In fact, you'll probably think you wouldn't have him any other way. I worried about it too when Charlie was a puppy and wouldn't stop growing. Now he is 14lbs (at last vet visit)... Were trying to get him down to 12 because the extra 2lbs is fat.. but my point is... I couldn't imagine him any other way now. And believe me, I was worried just like you are when he kept on growing. and look at the bright side.. If he does get on the bigger side, you can apply to the teapot club!!!

Your boys are my "exception" -- I LOVE THEM. I think they are just so handsome and have that gorgeous terrier face. I don't much care for the "teddy bear" look a lot are bred for now, as I prefer to keep them terrier-looking. I don't usually like longer hair (just my preference), but man your boys coats are amazing. I also think their size is just great. They are still obviously small but they have a bit more stature and sturdiness about them.

I have not seen anything about Huddersfield Ben being nearly 20 pounds. I'm seeing 11-12 pounds with pups thrown in the current standard.

I love the Pit Bull personality, but I don't want them to be small just to fit into my life style, nor do I think Yorkies should be 15+ pounds just because it is a preference. There will always be large Yorkies thrown and tiny Yorkies thrown. IMO, breed for neither, but wait for one if that is the only size you like. If there is a major deal then buy an adult.

Yorkies where bred down. But it's not simply I just like the attitude it's about the human like hair, no under coat, little shedding and doesn't act up my allergy's or mess with my grandmas copd. I love labs but they are to large for me and they shed a lot (grew up with one) love gold retrievers but they are large and lots of shedding too, even just being around a puppy made my allergy's act up. I mean honestly I love all dogs there are a few I am leery of and am not comfortable with Callie around. I would love a 4 pounder the same as a 20 pounder.

No actually "Ben" was 13 to 15 lbs. Not 20 lbs. There are many large yorkies, and many are in rescue, why because people want 3 lb dogs and pay 1000.00+ for less than pet quality dogs. Then get rid of them because they are not what the breeder promised. Yorkshire Terriers were bred down in size, they have always been a small dog but not micro in size. I like the larger ones and it is no problem to find them. I have people call me all the time for my breeders name because they like Keno's size. I always tell them to check with yorkie rescue. Keno's damn was 5 lbs and stud 4 lbs. Both show dogs, breeder knew I was looking for a larger puppy and called when it became apparent that Keno would be larger. He was 4.8 lbs at 13 weeks. Do I think the standard should be changed, no I think people should smarten up. There is no AKC puppy of any breed worth more than 1200.00 at 12 weeks. Now a show prospect is a different story but normally that takes a minimum of 9 months for a toy dog to mature enough to show promise.

Completely understand. I would love my dog no matter the size, but I prefer the standard size for Yorkies. Mine is much easier to carry than our 17 pound dog. She fits in a bag and I can fly with her.

Totally agree...I would love my kiddos no matter their size, but I'll admit it's WAY easier to carry around Marcel and Pfeiffer than Wylie. Not that Wylie is all that big (8.5 lbs), but he's definitely heavier. Also, when flying...I feel like poor Wylie is so cramped, whereas I don't feel that way for the other 2.

My boys are larger than standard and the perfect size for me. However, carrying them would be easier if they were a little lighter.

My sedge wick is, about 11 lbs., I call him my teapot! I did think he would stay smaller but I love him to life! My newest baby Ko Ko is a little rolly poly at 9 months she's 7 lbs, but still very low to the ground. ♡ my babies. ♡
