Worried might be too big Hey everyone - I know this has been asked before but I can't find it. How close to the growth chart did all your yorkies develop. My little guy is 4.5 pounds at 17 weeks. Someone was telling me he could be as big as 11 pounds full grown. At 12 weeks he was 3 pounds 10 ounces and so I double it and got between 6 and 7 pounds. Can any of you tell me your thoughts or based on your experience with your own little ones, what they were at 4 months and what they are full grown. Thanks so much! |

Lovetodeam - I love him to death. I just would prefer him to stay on the smaller side. If he does get to be 11 pounds it wont change how much I adore him, but would might just make it harder for me to carry him around like I do now. He is the smartest cutest thing ever, and so perfect. I was just wondering what everyone's experience has been with size. |
DOB 10/25/13. A little over 3 months, our puppy weighed 5.1 lbs. and at 4 months 6.1 lbs. A little over 5 months he weighed 7.8 lbs. and a few days ago 9 lbs. He isn't overweight and I say very fit. So reaching 11 lbs. with my puppy seems it could happen. For a dog his size, the little guy is probably the fastest dog in his size range at the dog park and grabs attention. |
They seem to have growth spurts, so maybe he will slow down and still be in the 6-7 lb. range. It's hard to tell when they are young, and the charts are often off a little. Anyway, good to know you'll love him at any weight. :) |
He could be a little bigger, but a 10 pound dog is still very small. It is a wonderful size, little enough to carry, but big enough that you don't have to worry as much about health issues, and getting under foot. My guess is, he will be 8-10 lbs. |
Our little guy was charting to be 6-7 lbs when we got him at 12 weeks, though I don't remember his actual weight then. By the time he was 1yo, he was 11 lbs! He flew right by that 6-7 lb mark and kept going. To be fair, the vet says he should weigh around 10 lbs. Working on that now that the weather is nicer and we can do more walking and playing outside. And, if I may be so bold, I would say that 10-11 lbs is significantly more than 6-7 for holding them and carrying them in a bag. We have smaller dogs come to visit and it's always remarkable to me how much lighter they feel than our pup. But, I would also say, like the OP, we love him dearly and he's not going anywhere just because the growth charts were wrong for him.:love: |
I don't know about Snoopy, but Sally should have been pretty little according to the charts, and she's over 6 lbs now. |
Thanks everyone! Yeah I know it's really unpredictable. This pup is so amazing - his eyes are so expressive you would swear he really understands everything we say - and he's such a little lover. He sleeps with us every night and nuzzles in my neck the whole time. I guess time will tell, and yeah bigger does mean more sturdy and less worry. I'll let you all know what he weighs in 3 months - at 7 months. |
Lol.....Bella's parents were both 5 lbs. she was the smallest of the litter. At 12 wks she was 2lbs. She's 15 months and getting close to 8 lbs. I thought I wanted tiny ( not that 8 lbs is big) but I love her sturdiness. She's tough enough to play with my Shih Tzu and Lab, with supervision. |

My girl was 1.8 pounds at 7.5 weeks if you want to do the math... Completely understand. I would love my dog no matter the size, but I prefer the standard size for Yorkies. Mine is much easier to carry than our 17 pound dog. She fits in a bag and I can fly with her. |

Babies weigh a heck of a lot more and people carry them around a lot. I think my cousins 18 month old is at 40 pounds. 17 doesn't sound so bad to me after carrying him around :D |
