| Strange Reaction to Wellness Food -Help! I fed Gizmo some Wellness Food with his regular food and he acted strange and then threw up. First he took a Wellness kibble to the rug, put it on the floor and was trying to rub his face on it for a little while. Put it in his mouth and seemed to have a hard time chewing it, like it was too hard. After about 3 pieces he threw up. Has anyone ever had such a strange reaction? |

| That does sound unusual after only 3 pieces. Usually it happens when changing a food too quickly and the pup has too much of the new food. Was this a brand new bag that you opened?

| Yes, I just bought it today and it doesn't expire until 2015. Have you ever heard of a dog rubbing their face on it? |

| That is a very strange reaction but I don't think three kibbles would do it. I there anything else you could think of that might have encouraged this strange behavior or upset tummy before he had the wellness offered?

| Rubbing the face on something that smells interesting is not unusual.

| Maybe it has pesticide, cleaner, manure or something else "wrong" in it - some factory mistake. I believe I would return that bag to the store and get another one from a totally different batch. I don't believe I would feed my dog any more of that food. And, I'd keep a small portion of it in double or triple bagged in the freezer just in case. And keep your receipt for that bag. And I'd notify the manufacturer of his almost instant vomiting.

| I took the bag right back to the store last night. He did eat his normal food after that with no issues. Not gonna try to fix something that's not broken again! Thanks for the advice. |

| I'm glad he's feeling better! Kudos on returning the food and getting your money back. What kind of food are you feeding now? |

| So glad to hear that. With all the dogs sickening or dying from manufacturing oversights, it's just not worth feeding them more after a reaction like that. Could have been totally unrelated but who wants to take that chance?

| He's been eating Nutro Natural Balance Small Breed Puppy since I brought him home. I read some negative comments on this site so I thought I should change. He has not had any issues with Nutro and I feed Nutro to my last dog, Lab/Great Dane mix. |

Max ate Nutro when I first brought him home. I highly recommend switching to something else. This brand has had so many serious problems. I understand Gizmo's vomiting probably scared you off from trying other foods, but it was probably an unusual episode. Maybe the bag of food was bad, or it was mere coincidence. When you try another food, hand feed him a few of the kibble and don't let him take it to the carpet. Make the switch slowly -- although some pups will eat the new stuff and leave the old kibble and do fine.

| We tried Wellness awhile back and we were not impressed. It gave our dogs gas (bad!) and they reacted just like when they ate Diamond food. Then I found out that Diamond made some of the foods for Wellness (not sure if they still do or not), so we switched to something else. I haven't had any luck with anything made by Diamond, and that was the only experience I had with Wellness. I haven't tried it since. I am NOT a fan of Nutro, but a lot of people swear by it and their dogs do well on it. If it's working for you, that's great. Finding the right dog food can be a real pain! We are currently feeding Horizon (Legacy and Amicus) and also Fromm. We rotate between them.

Nutro Natural Choice Dog Food | Review and Rating I'm not familar with the issues people are having with it. If your dog is doing well on it, maybe it would be okay to stay on it? | |

| Maybe Nutro has improved, but they were the leaders of the pack by far for recalls and product withdrawals during the 2007 - 2008 pet food recall debacle. They are also the leaders of most complaints on Consumer Reviews. Most complaints relate to vomiting, diarrhea, and digestive issues. NUTRO Pet Food Recalls | Pet Food RecallPet Food Recall I don't trust the company.

| As far as feeding a few kibbles of new food from my hand, I did that after he took the first one and then he got sick. I think I'm going to stick with Nutro and he likes it. I checked the internet and they haven't had a recall since 2009. |
