| Spring yeaaa, allergies boo Late Wednesday night Sissy started scratching, rubbing her muzzle, ears and butt on the floor. Her belly was red with little raised spots and she didn't sleep well. I called the vet first thing in the morning and she got her right in. It's allergies and she gave her a tapering dose of steroids. She is much better today-belly not red and has stopped scratching. My vet is great, she is crazy about bubba because he is so friendly. Where as Sissy is shy and gets stiff as a board when there. My vet said to the vet tech, it's useless to try and take her temperature because she is just going to clamp that little nub down and no way will she let you, so just forget it. Checking the allergy cast, maple, cedar and elm are the pollens out right now. It has been a miserable winter here in nj and with a little rise in temperature the past couple of days things are beginning to bloom (but they are predicting snow again next week ). While I was there I picked up some CET toothpaste (on YT recommendation ) to see if they like it better than what I have been using. My vet is less expensive than Amazon but now I see Drs Foster and Smith has an even better price.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Poor kiddo, allergies are miserable. So, what is the long term plan to manage the allergies when the steroids wear off? I wouldn't be surprised if she reacted again to these same pollens, and others too, unforch . I totally understand what you're going through bc we deal w/ allergies too. Btw, you almost have to wonder if her reaction was due to a contact allergy or something bc of how she reacted w/ hives...did it happen right after she was outside or anything?

Nothing has changed, treats, diet, shampoo or detergent. Was she outside? Oh diffinitely, seems like every 10 min. It would make them happy if I just stood by the door. Ps allergies are horrible here today. 8.1 out of 12 with pollens being maple, cedar, juniper and elm. (insert human sniffles)

| Have you tried veteracin spray? It's amazing, I gave some to my neighbor as well as use it on gizmo. It got his little red bumps healed up in no time, and the German Shepard next door had lost all her fur and had angry red skin from allergies that turned to hot spots. After he used it on his Shepard for a couple weeks, all the hot spots and redness was gone, she now about a month later has a full coat of fur again :-) its totally safe and much better than using meds, it's basically super oxygenated water that promotes cellular growth and kills any type of bacteria or pollen. If you research, you will find amazing feedback for all the things it can be used for. I use it myself and its made for animals lol, although there are human versions of it called puricyn and microcyn, but they are by rx only and cost 3 times the price of the animal version, and its all the same ingredients in each one, so I just buy the animal one. My main reason I came across it was because for years I have suffered severe UTI's that would land me in the hospital. I had a tube coming out my abdomen to empty my bladder due to my paralysis which became infected with staph, and no antibiotic would get rid of it. I heard about veteracin on a paraplegic forum. I had surgery in march of last year to have the tube removed, and started flushing my whole bladder and everything with the veteracyn, as I still have to use catheters, and I have been infection free or a year now. The longest I ave gone without infection in the five years since I became a paraplegic. It treats many things and is all natural. It treats allergies, wound healing, infection and a ton of other things. It's definitely worth checking out :-) |

| I buy mine at calvetsupply, but its best to buy it as close to you as possible, because if it freezes while being shipped, it can make it less effective because of the oxygenated process of the product :-) its funny, when I first started using it about 2 years ago hardly anyone used it and it was hard to find. Now it's carried by petco, and many other stores. I have also seen that Cesar Milan keeps it in his first aid kit, and have also seen it on dr pol. It seems the more people learn about it, the more popular it has become because it truly works amazing for so many things !!!! I even made my husband test it on himself before I used it by making him spray it in his eye lol, thankfully it didn't hurt him at all lol. It's amazing how many humans use the animal version instead of the human one because of the cost difference :-) Last edited by Sunnydayz; 03-21-2014 at 05:00 PM. |
