| Are Microchip-companies created equally? Are all microchip companies created equally? My vet uses ResQ by DataMar. She told me it is utilized Internationally and that they also do not charge a yearly fee. The only time they charge a fee is when you change information such as an address or phone number. I have three questions....... 1) Is there really any difference in microchipping companies? 2) Do vets have the capability of scanning all microchips no matter which one your pet may have? (Do their scanners recognize any chip?) 3) Does anyone use the ResQ by DataMar?

| 1. Yes. 2. No. Not all scanners scan all chips. 3. ResQ chips are used here. There are charts and such online that show which chips are detected by the majority of scanners, etc.

| You need a certain type for traveling to Europe if that is ever a possibility. Not sure if all vets have it available. |

| According to the chart I posted a link to above, the Bayer (ResQ/Datamars) and Home Again universal scanners can read all major types of chips. The AKC and Avid scanners don't do quite as well. |

| Our vet uses resQ and we registered at Petlink. net. We were charged for the initial sign up and that was it. We were not charged when we added information online. It was just an additional phone number. This company is used nationally but being able to detect the chip depends on what scanner is being used. I was told that shelters in this are have the right scanner to detect their chips. I just don't know much about other areas and what they have for detection devices. If you go to the petlink. net website you might find more information. |
