Shaking......

Is she shaking form being cold or hypoglycemia?

Tatiana shakes/shivers like she is cold! I can wrap her up in a blanket and she still shakes. So, I go and feed her and she stops shaking right away! Could she be cold and the food warms her or is she showing signs of hypoglycemia? Tatiana is very small, (2 lbs. 15 ozs.) and 14 months old. It is really cold here, today, but she didn't shake all day, just this afternoon. She did yesterday morning and I put a fleece hoodie on her to keep her warm.

She is feed 3 times a day with about 5 hours between meals. Why does she continue to do this? It is not every day. Maybe 2 or 3 times a week.

I don't see any other signs of hypoglycemia.....like weakness, stumbling, fear, etc. She is alert, but will want me to hold her. I just would like some opinions and should I be worried. Thank you in advance!

If she is still shaking after you wrap a blanket around her, sounds like it isn't because she is cold. Also, if she stops shaking after you feed her, I would be inclined to think she is feeling hunger/hypoglycemia. Does she ever throw up bile in the morning?

I would try making sure she has a little something in between meals. Teddy was a very skinny pup with a fast metabolism. He needed more than his 3 meals a day, but we couldn't free feed him with Max. We give him a kibble or two as rewards for potty breaks, tricks, fixing his hair, and after an outing. Having these little extras throughout the day help him.

No, she does not throw up bile in the morning. I feed her right away, usually around 6:15 in the morning. You know, some days I give her some kibble pieces and today, she didn't get any in-between her meals. I will make a point of giving her a couple pieces between meals! Thanks Kristin, you got me thinking!

Could it be fear of something? If Dolly hears a fire alarm or smoke detector---way off in the distance even--she shakes & needs to be really close to me. She hated some of the sounds of The Olympics on TV (timers,etc.) & the other night climbed up & sat on my shoulder, shaking the whole time. Or maybe one of the other dogs is doing something sassy & she's reacting?

Good luck figuring it out.

BTW, that was Dolly's size at that age & she's still only 3.5 lbs. at 10 years old! And peppy as can be!

I don't think it is a noise as I held her for a long time and she was trying to nap in my lap, yesterday. I had her wrapped in a blanket because I thought she was cold, even though, she had on jumpsuit/jammies!

I am going to try feeding her a few pieces of kibble between meals. How often do you feed Dolly?

Loss of appetite (anorexia)
Increased hunger
Visual instability, such as blurred vision
Disorientation and confusion – may show an apparent inability to complete basic routine tasks
Weakness, low energy, loss of consciousness
Seizures (rare)
Anxiety, restlessness
Tremor/shivering
Heart palpitations

This is me, dog acting NOT IT'S SELF, I watch carefully, maybe for an hour or 2, maybe for a day, then off to the vet I go, whether it be an emergency visit where they charge extra matters not to me, what matters to me is MY DOG, If I were in your shoes and couldn't come up with a reason why this is a on again off again issue, that pup would have been at my vet. But that is me, call me OVER CONCERNED, Better to be safe then sorry, NOT TELLING YOU WHAT YOU SHOULD DO, just saying what I would do. I hope you can find out what is going on with her. Shaking can sometimes be due to not feeling well, ie, their tummy isn't feeling right. Does she show any other signs of anything besides that shaking?

My MIL has heated donut beds for her kiddos, maybe Tatiana needs one, the spoiled little princess punkin' .

Tatiana's appetite is awesome! She doesn't seem to act differently.....no vision, stumbling, low energy, etc. Just shaking! She hasn't been to the vet for a while. She has been very healthy this winter! She will go in for blood work in a couple of weeks as she is getting spayed. I will again talk to them about my concerns. I am worried about her not having food for such a long time when they do the spay!

She doesn't show any other signs except shaking. What is this heated pad? Where can I get one?

Bella has some issues with anxiety when I'm not home, and tends to shiver when I'm not around. It could also be anxiety, which goes away when you feed Tatiana or otherwise give her some type of attention that she craves.

I don't think it is anxiety as I am home all day every day! She does get stressed when I leave! I even took her to a dentist appointment so she wouldn't have to stay at home and be all stressed out. ( The staff at the dentist just love her!) I know she shakes when she is nervous! Like when we went to PetSmart last weekend. We haven't been out for a while and she got really shaky, but I know that was because she was scared! It is when we are at home and I am with her that she will shiver, that I am not sure if she is cold or hungry. Is there a way to tell the difference. I wrapper her up and she still did it. I am worried that it is from her blood sugar getting low!

Maybe you should feed her more often and see if that helps. You could start eliminating things that way so you could tell the vet what you have tried

I gave her some pieces of kibble between her meals and I will wait and see if she shakes this afternoon. She has been fine this morning!

Both Dolly & Teena are only 3.5 lbs. (Teena was only 2.5 when I got her at 2 yrs old). I free-feed them kibble all day & they really don't each much-maybe 1/2 cup total for the 2. At lunch--which is really the first time either of them will eat anything--& dinner I add a little something to the food bowl: a little meat, or meaty dog food or veggies or healthy dog treats.

When I got Teena she was a dog who shaked constantly-I think little ones tend to shake from many emotions. Now she never shakes.

I know if they ever started eating too much & getting "fat" I'd have to stop free-feeding.
