Am I missing something? Is this a joke? An example of miscommunication?

In vitro for dogs? Artificial insemination - yes, it's done. And from what weve recently learned, there are even "do it yourself" videos on youtube. But in vitro? Highly unlikely anyone would either offer it or choose to have it done. Aside from the expense, the logistics and dangers associated with ovarian stimulation in order to develop follicles to collect the eggs seems preposterous.

Eggs are not "flushed out" of the ovary. In fact, eggs aren't even present in the ovaries. What is there is something called an oocyte. In the presence of certain hormones, these oocytes mature and rise to the surface of the ovary and create follicles. The follicle then bursts and the egg is released. With in vitro, the ovaries are stimulated to hasten the development of the oocytes. The follicle is mechanically ruptured and the mature egg is collected and either fertilized right away or frozen for later use. The ovum is then fertilized and hopefully becomes a zygote. The zygotes are then transferred in to a prepared uterus where, with a lot of luck, they will hopefully implant themselves in to the lining of the uterus. (That's the simplified version).

So, why would anyone do this for a dog? Logic would dictate that if someone was going to attempt this, the donor dog had better be a spectacular example of the breed and not your run of the mill (lovable as they are) yorkie.

This one has me shaking my head.

in 2 days she is getting spayed.. im not doing anything to her,she is going to be a happy yorkie with soon to be another rrescue.spaying is the right choice.im happy I get to have 3 amazing little dogs. I will post a picture of raya.

I'm sorry. I guess I just have a really hard time understanding how it is a that in this day of age, a 25 year old woman would have no idea of what Invitro fertilization is or means? I know my 25 year old daughters know, and I dont ever recall talking to them about it myself.
