Problems I am having with my new yorkie

Tinkerbell is nearly four and still harasses her adoptive mom (my poodle). She used to harass the cats, but they grew... now they harass her!

Gizmo had a bit of loose stools a few weeks after I rescued him, and it ended up he was allergic. To the little pieces of boiled chicken I was giving him with rice. Sometimes what works for one pup, can have the opposite affect on another. I ended up getting an anti-diarrhea med for him from the vet and stopped the chicken, and its never happened again. I also feed him a really good diet with royal canine kibble mixed with commercial raw. He's super healthy now and I only I've him human foods that are good for him such as a few frozen veggies and little pieces of apple or banana on occasion. Also his treats are all made in USA with locally sourced ingredients. They can have very sensitive tummies when they are really young.

Gizmo also gets the zoomies lol, it's so funny to me and he just makes me laugh he's so silly. They tend to be mostly in the afternoon as well :-) he will be eight months in 2 days :-)

I too had a dog with pancreatitis and my vet said no pumpkin because it's fibrous and hard to break down and would just add to the issue. Does your pup throw up just after she drinks water? That is one sign that it could be an issue, but also he was projectile shooting blood out his bum. You don't seem to be there, but I agree with getting bloodwork done if you have concerns, or perhaps an acid bile test to make sure you aren't dealing with liver shunt

I will be taking Sophie to the vet tomorrow. Wish her luck that they are able to stop the diarrhea. She is a completely healthy puppy except for her diarrhea. She eats well and has never thrown up since I have had her. To all who explained the zoomies to me. Thanks! Lol! Now that I know what is going on I have learnt to get on the floor and play with her until she gets tired and falls asleep on my chest. I never had any children but I know what it feels like to be a mama.

One of my puppies just had Giardia and the vet gave them an anti-biotic at the office and sent another one home and it was cleared up within a couple days. He took the medicine for a week, but he was better in 2-3 days. I would recommend getting the anti-biotics, it cleared it up fast and he has been better for a couple weeks now. He got really sick for about 2 days though.

The vet gave her antibiotics but I heard Giardia is hard to cure. She has really bad diarrhea.

Btw as I'm writing this she had to go and.... Whooooooo!! Her stool looked better. I'm praying that she improves. It's been a long road!!

Giardia is not necessarily hard to cure....it is hard to keep re-infection from happening. Our dogs had giardia not too long ago. Metronidazole and a form of probiotic cleared them up within a day or two ....but the vet advised me to treat the yard with diatomaceous earth to keep them from getting it back.....it seems to have worked!

This is not the first time I have heard of diatomaceous earth I'll have to try it. What brand did you use and did you apply it only once? Thanks so much!!

I am worried about re-infection. I am thinking the Cat Truffles they dig up is probably how my puppy got it in the first place. I will have to look into that and try to treat the yard so maybe we will not get it again.

Sometimes they will even give you antibiotics just to be sure, what did the vet give you? did you change food suddenly, if so that could cause it. When Lola was puppy she went through a good week of severe diarrhea to the point she was screaming when she would have to go, which was very often. I took her to the vet at least twice and he mostly gave her parasite meds even though none were detected. He finally helped me figure out the right dose of children's imodeam and that was the only thing that worked, within a day it was gone. But we ruled out everything else first. I think what caused it was I gave her a greenie (but not that brand) type of chew that looked like a toothbrush and was almost as big. It was hard and I thought this would be something she would chew on for hours, even days. However that was not the case she was in her cage and I was cleaning, in less than a half hour the whole chew was gone. I still regret giving her that to this day and will never giver her any type of edible chews like that especially greenies, they are to dangerous for dogs. I was lucky because this did not have lasting effects on her digestive system but something like this could throw a dog into having pancreatic issues for the rest of their lives, so be careful will all that type of stuff, many yorkies have sensitive stomachs so it is important especially when they are puppies not to be giving them lots of table scraps and things like jerky treats from the pet stores. Also read every label carefully and do not buy ANY treat that is not made in the USA, run from anything that is made in China. Best of luck with your puppy and welcome to Yorkie Talk.

well, I am so glad I read this. I thought Lacey had diarrhea from an orange slice..now I think it was the greenie she stole from her sister (Huskey) Maya. Day 3 and finally starting to improve luv YT!
