| Asking About As a Breeder Has anyone ever heard about stillwateryorkies.com in Georgia? My girlfriend lost her yorkie last week and now put money down on their waiting list.I think they have a beautiful site but the teacup size, apple head, and baby doll faces would drive me away.I told her to look up my breeder who strives to breed good healthy puppies which we are happy with Our Kinder.Anyways just wondering and sometimes you just can not tell a friend they do not want to listen.Susan |

Any breeder that focuses their attention on 'looks' raises a , as evident on their homepage. No reputable respectable breeder will use marketing phrases like 'babydoll face' & the other ones you've mentioned. Health should come 1st & foremost, this is what they should be shriving for, along w/good temperament & mentally sound Yorkie. I also do not like the eyes of the Yorkie on their homepage...it looks off. The whites of their eyes should not be so visible if they're looking straight.

| A breeder using the term teacup is not a good breeder and shes probably going to end up with a sick pup. Also if she is advertising "teacup" yorkies then she is probably breeding females under 5 pounds which is dangerous and shows she has no care for her breeding dogs.

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I always suggest the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America, they are the mother club for the Yorkie and you will find many breeders who breed for the right reasons. They are available, in nearly every state, so that means you can check them out in person, to ensure that you are not supporting a puppy mill breeder. They are finding home for the pups they won't be adding to their breeding programs, and these dogs are often show quality dogs, if looks are important, but more importantly to me anyway, is that they are more likely to breed for health, because their name goes on the line. dedicated breeders don't want to breed in health problems so they do expensive testing. Since they aren't in the "business" of selling dogs, they are more likely to sell pups way under their actual market value. Not everyone can make the cut, but if your girlfriend can offer a great home, I'd tell her to interview a YTCA breeder. You can find a breeder's link in my signature. I'm not a member of the club though, I just bought a really healthy beautiful dog from a YTCA breeder, and I'm so glad a Yorkietalker told me about the club.

| Thanks for the replies and I think I am going to stop telling my girlfriend what to do.I hope she really thinks about buying the yorkie from this place but I guess she will do what she wants to do and it is her money.I just hate to see her go through what we went through with our dear Keally from an idiot breeder we bought her from.I learned so much on this site and a big thanks to Amazing Yorkies Deb Sillers for giving us life again our angel Kinder. Susan Thank you everyone on YorkieTalk. |

| Thanks again and I did email and told her to get on YT. She has not answered me and that has been four days ago.I just thought I could give her some helpful suggestions and maybe I went too far.Right now I think I will stay quiet and not say anymore to her about buying a yorkie puppy.I just feel bad and slapped in the face when she could not answer me back.Today is not a good day because it is the 26th of January and fours years ago Keally passed away and five years ago this day I lost Polly my parrot.Anyways I am going to save this imformation and when my girlfriend has problems I will give her the truth.Thanks.Susan |

| A good quality pet Yorkie should not cost more than $1500. Those sites are rip off sites and usually are put together by owners of puppy mills and their brokers. I hope your friend will get pointed in the right direction. Have her find a good AKC breed or conformation club in her area. Sometimes the YTCA does not answer people as quickly as they would like. They can also go to reputable cubs in their area. You can do a search here: American Kennel Club - Club Search and Directory If there is no local Yorkshire Terrier club in your her area then a conformation club will most likely have some Yorkie members. These clubs have breeder referral contact persons that can point her in the right direction. Finding a reputable breeder is not always as simple as finding these puppy mills but they are worth the time and trouble of looking. |
