I always suggest the Yorkshire Terrier Club of America, they are the mother club for the Yorkie and you will find many breeders who breed for the right reasons. They are available, in nearly every state, so that means you can check them out in person, to ensure that you are not supporting a puppy mill breeder. They are finding home for the pups they won't be adding to their breeding programs, and these dogs are often show quality dogs, if looks are important, but more importantly to me anyway, is that they are more likely to breed for health, because their name goes on the line. dedicated breeders don't want to breed in health problems so they do expensive testing. Since they aren't in the "business" of selling dogs, they are more likely to sell pups way under their actual market value. Not everyone can make the cut, but if your girlfriend can offer a great home, I'd tell her to interview a YTCA breeder. You can find a breeder's link in my signature.
