| How big do Yorkies get ? We adopted him about 1.5 years ago from a shelter and he was registered as Tuffy the Yorkie. we were kind of convinced that he is a mixed breed because he weighs 25 lbs and is about 26 inches long and 15 inches tall. He is 7.5 years old now. Recently we had a DNA test done at Wisdom Panel and they came back saying he was a purebred Yorkie. We are kind of stumped not knowing what to think. Has anybody heard of Yorkies this large ? Any thoughts & feedbacks are much appreciated. thanks rubald |

| wow, a Yorkie bigger than Jackson! hehe. He is BEAUTIFUL - love his coat! He looks pure Yorkie to me. He reminds me of Eddie here on YT (alaskayorkie). It is entirely possible. With all the bad breeding going on these days, etc, dogs often aren't "standard". But it doesn't mean they're not purebred. He is gorgeous.

Donating Senior Yorkie Talker | What a truly handsome creature, he looks pure bred to me. We meet one on our walks on the beach here. He's just under 23lbs and 5 years old, every things in proportion and all muscle. He attracts a lot of attention; bit like a small Airedale and a really fast runner! Perhaps a throwback as they are related to the 'King of the Terriers' anyway. Lovely dog... |

Donating YT 3000 Club Member | The Yorkies were a larger breed but the Victorians wanted more of a lap dog so they bred them smaller. And now the standard is between 4-7 lbs. but there is many that are larger. Yours is a beautiful yorkie . . . Just the way he is !

| There is so much variation in this breed. Maybe it's just me but I have seen more size variation in this breed than almost any other. I think maybe it's because yorkies in the 19th century were originally bigger, well over 10 pounds, then the AKC made the standard at 7 pounds in the late 1800's, but now with the "teacup" craze, they are being bred smaller and smaller. So...as genetics go, you will get bigger yorkies in the mix. Personally, I love yorkies at ALL sizes! I have four yorkies and they range from 4 pounds all the way to 15-plus pounds! My 15 pounder came from parents that were both under 10 pounds. Your guy is adorable and I think he looks well proportioned. |

| Tanner is 15 weeks and weighs 4.9lbs! His mom is 8lbs and dad is 6lbs. I think Tanner will be bigger than both his parents. |
