| 2 yr old Yorkie attacking 8 mo. old Biewer ADVICE PLEASE!! Hi all, I haven't been on here in awhile - and I'm sorry for that. I have a serious problem with my Yorkie and 8 mo. Biewer puppy and need help. I also apologize in advance for the lengthy post - I dont' know how else to explain it. My 7 lb, 2yr old Yorkie (Lucy) has always been a timid girl. She's skittish around strangers and was the only pup in the litter. We were very careful when we decided to bring a new puppy to our home in the fall. We waited until we were all in the home together. We showed Lucy great attention and made sure that she was considered the "senior" gal of the household. The dogs always had separate, toys, food, beds, clothes etc. Lucy was always fed/given treats/walked first (and still is.) When we brought home a Biewer puppy in the fall, all went well at first. The two girls played together, slept together & ate together. They were also both secured in my kitchen while I was at work & the kids at school. When I came home from work, I'd find the two of them in one bed together - happy as clams. Our Biewer is a wonderful girl - very gentle & sweet. She likes to prop herself on a person's shoulder and just hang out there. She LOVES people & most dogs, weighs 4 lbs and barks very little. Recently, though Lucy has begun seriously attacking our Biewer (Brie.) It starts with just a stare. Fortunately, it's happened while we have all been around so we've been able to separate them quickly (there would certainly be blood drawn if they kept at it.) Brie used to not want to fight back, but now she does. For the time being, the dogs are kept in separate rooms while were out of the house and sometimes even when we're home. Our Biewer is a teenager and will be spayed in April. I was wondering whether her scent has maybe changed and sparked something in Lucy. Anyway, I really can use some advice and help. Will this behavior stop? Is there anything I can do to stop it? Should I seek professional help - if so, who? What can my family do???? We can't continue to live this way but we won't part with either dog - they are our loves! Thanks for all your help and support. Tracey |

| I sympathise with you, hopefully someone with experience in this kind of behaviour can give you some advice.

| It could very well be that your Biewer is or has gone into heat. Is Lucy spayed? I would keep them separate and if it is indeed the hormones, you should see a change a few weeks or months after her spay

| I have had the same problem with my female. I had her first and someone gave me a male. Both were 1 1/2 yrs old and are 3 1/2 now. The first 5 mos went great! Then the female showed jealous toward me and started attacking him. He was so scared but started fighting back after awhile. She is jealous over toys, food etc. I could tell when she was going to get him by that stare she would use. It became a big problem and I know they are fine when I'm not around. I never separated them and Hub's said they were fine when he is alone with them. She has even growled at my Hubby when he has come toward me. I started rolling her over on her back and holding her down and scolding her! This has helped although she tries to start it every once in a while still. I try to show the same attention to both. I wish I had an answer and like you, I don't want to part with either of them. This has been a big challenge! I hope you find answers. And also, both mine have been fixed. | I also have a 3yr old,7lb female yorkie and an 8 month old biewer, she is going to be a little bigger than her sister. I haven't experienced any aggression from either of them. Both were spayed when they reached 6months of age. The other dogs in my house are 3 males (poodle and chi). I haven't ever experienced the stare dare look from any of them. The only problem that I have had is the puppy getting to ruff with the yorkie and the yorkie really taking an exception to it. I usually clap my hands loudly to redirect their attention before it turns into a brawl. The girls are kept in crates next to each other when I am not home. They can see each other but cannt touch. Im sorry that you are experiencing this and hope that you will find a solution. |
