Congratulations on your new addition. Little Kuzco. He is absolutely adorable and deserves to be named after an emperor!

Like others here mentioned, I use positive reinforcement training. When a "punishment" is needed a short timeout (or withdrawl of attention) generally does the trick.

We are piddle pad training him. The weather is usually too wet and rainy to do otherwise at the moment! he goes right to the piddle pad...and then misses!! LOL.

Your little guy is very cute. We live in Oregon, so I feel your pain on the potty in the rain. We have a covered deck so that helps a bit. Lexi had a hard time with the rain, but she has figured out the faster she goes and does her business, the faster she gets out of the rain. Good lick.

Lexi is darling! When we go out in the rain-Kuzco wants to stay there.His undercarriage gets wet and he starts shivering. Doesn't matter one bit to him! Does to me! I'm not fond of being out there either.

A harness that does not touch the neck area is best for small dogs. If your pup is jumpy about it let him see and smell it first. Put it on the floor and let him get comfortable with the idea of it. Try having him wear it inside at first. Some little ones are not happy with the idea but once they associate the idea of the harness with going outside they usually start to love even the sight of it.

Healthy treats are great motivators for a Yorkie. Giving a small treat after you put the harness on him will also help him associate the harness with something he loves.

You can do the same process with the leash if he seems to object to the idea. Let him drag it around inside and give him lots of encouragement and some treats for being so good. If he is the nervous or suspicious type just take it slowly with lots of encouragement and small treats. He will eventually associate both the harness and the leash with things he likes.

I agree. I would get a harness. I use the Buddy Belt harness. Kristin ( Maximo ) sells them. They are wonderful. They only collar I put on him is a breakaway cat collar. I only put it on when he is running around so I can hear where he is. Also if he gets caught on anything it comes off.
