Missing her best friend :( My 2 year old Yorkie has been super depressed since we had to put our 12 year old Westie down 2 and a half weeks ago. She's barely eating and laying around and hiding all day. She has no interest in playing. I've been taking her on nice long walks and she seems to enjoy that. I was expecting her to mourn but it has been going on longer then I expected. Any tips/suggestions?

I hate to say it, but it might be time to look for a sister or brother. That would keep her busy.

No matter if you get another brother or sister, dogs mourn just like people do. Some mourn longer then others. You just have to keep doing what your doing and let your baby mourn the way she needs to.

Donating YT 500 Club Member | So sorry for your loss. I think it just takes time with all pack/flock creatures. I say flock because last year my Cockatiel got really upset when my budgie died. The Budgie, Buster was a real pain in the tail feathers to George (the cockatiel, really actually Georgina as is female) but when he died suddenly after hurting himself in the cage George was bereft, calling and calling for him and pacing up and down the cage, he didn't want to come out hardly just to fly round the house and then rush back in to the cage looking for and calling to Buster. I couldn't stand seeing George so upset and got another Budgie after a couple of days. It didn't help at first and he totally ignored Stormbird, but he calmed down after a few weeks and now they are ok friends. Getting another dog is a little more complicated and needs a lot more consideration but my point is really that getting another bird didn't help George he was missing Buster, I think he would have come round on his own without another Budgie, it just takes time.

They are such creatures of habit. It does take time for them to adjust to changes like that. Try to distract her as much as you can. The walks I am sure will help her. Try to change up some of her regular activities a little to help her mind to go in a different direction. Hope she recovers soon. Sorry about your loss. It is never easy to lose a family member.
