So sorry for your loss. I think it just takes time with all pack/flock creatures. I say flock because last year my Cockatiel got really upset when my budgie died. The Budgie, Buster was a real pain in the tail feathers to George (the cockatiel, really actually Georgina as is female) but when he died suddenly after hurting himself in the cage George was bereft, calling and calling for him and pacing up and down the cage, he didn't want to come out hardly just to fly round the house and then rush back in to the cage looking for and calling to Buster. I couldn't stand seeing George so upset and got another Budgie after a couple of days. It didn't help at first and he totally ignored Stormbird, but he calmed down after a few weeks and now they are ok friends.
Getting another dog is a little more complicated and needs a lot more consideration but my point is really that getting another bird didn't help George he was missing Buster, I think he would have come round on his own without another Budgie, it just takes time.
