Every moment that you wait to start tube feeding these pups, is a moment you are falling behind. I taught a girl in the Middle East (Saudi Arabia) to tube feed her baby, first via email, then over the phone....tube feeding is EASIER than bottle feeding and a lot less dangerous, and more percise! You need to start putting some urgency in your pace Michelle! Get on line and pull up several of the HUNDREDS of videos on how tyo tube feed a puppy, and get started saviung these babies! Hopefully, you are at the very least, using a formula that we breeders have posted on this site dozens of times....and not just canned dog milk.....Please, PLEASE, learn how to tube feed from someone, ANYONE, .....I can not believe there is no vet in your area that will help you with this....It absolutely is anguish for me to sit and watch precious little babies die, starve to death, because they were not at least given the chance tube feeding the correct formula provides. |
Are the puppies not eating at all, or just fussy? I can not even imagine how stressful that must be. They are so tiny! |
You NEVER try to bottle feed a baby with a weak sucking reflex/gag reflex....you will end up with formula in the lungs.....mortality rate for aspiration pneumonia is about 88%. If they are healthy eaters, you still have to spend sooooooo much time feeding each of the babies, by the time you get them all fed and cleaned up, it is time to start over. They have to be getting 1cc/oz of a NUTRITIOUS formula at least every 2 hours around the clock. You have no way to ensure that baby is getting what it needs to survive by guessing around with a bottle.....Tube feeding delivers the exact amount needed, as often as needed, quickly and safely, with NO energy expended by the enfant as it struggles to live. |
Yes, we are weighing them and I am looking at videos to learn about tube feeding. |
Could you two ( Michele and Judy) possibly talk on the phone right NOW ? Judy, you could teach her. Or, call Magic Genie (sp?)that posted her phone # earlier..? |
I would like to ask for prayers for Allie. Michele is on her way back to the ER with her. Please keep them in your thoughts. She is panting, low temp and is weak, pale pink gums. Michele's husband and daughter have the puppies. |
Prayers are going out for Allie, and for the pups too. |

Sorry double post |
An update: Allie was making a retching noise without actually throwing up. The vet said that her throat was irritated from being intubated. The pain meds are upsetting her tummy,so she is being given an anti nausea med and they are letting her go home. Michele sounded absolutely worn out. She is talking to someone about helping her learn to tube feed. Everyone in her house needs a good nights sleep so that healing can begin. I will be trying to update for Michele until she is up to doing it herself. Thank you to those that are still up at this hour (Midnight TX time) and praying for this family in need. |
Thanks for the update! Glad to hear. Positive thoughts from Washington... |
Michele has my total and complete support in this endeavor...I pray for Allie's over all health, her 4 precious, innocent babies to thrive and Michele strength to endure...this is going to be a very difficult road...but I'm confident in the power of prayer and will continue to do so as there is nothing else I can offer... |
Thanks for the update, glad to hear it wasn't anything worse for Allie. Prayers will continue. |

I can use every prayer anyone can spare. I am calling my midwife in the morning to see if she will give me some butterflies. Good news is Allie is actually showing interest in the puppies on her own. I was sitting on the bed texting an update, after puppies had been fed and cleaned up and she walked from the bedroom into the bathroom and kind of stood there looking at the box they're in. She's okay with them being closer to her if they aren't squeaking. She doesn't like their noises they make. When my daughter and I sit to feed them, she will come sit beside us and kind of look at them out of the corner of her eye, like she doesn't want us to see her looking at them. After bringing her home from the vet just now, the first place she went was to the bathroom. She got into her travel bag and out herself at the very back of it as if she were hiding and starting digging around. Not sure what that's about. (We are watching her anytime she's near the puppies). We have a friend who is an herbalist and he mixed up some herbs for her that is supposed to help her milk come in as well as some of the hormones she would have felt during birth that she missed out on from the c-section. We are hoping this will help spark her maternal instinct and help her want to be mamma. If not, we will continue feeding puppies. We are waiting on several contacts with information on feeding tubes and help and I appreciate the outpouring of support. I hope and pray no other Yorkie owner has to go through this because of a desire to breed their dog. Trust me. It's NOT worth it!!! |
Wow, this was a painful thread to read. I am glad Yt isn't always like this. I really hope for the best for Allie and the pups and everyone involved. It is hard to fall short, harder to share it and awful to have someone choose to be so hurtful anyway when you are already shaming yourself. I keep livestock (goats an sheep etc) and I would strongly encourage the behaviors outlined by rose hill especially nipple stimulation which naturally stimulates oxytocin production and to devote as much time as you can to their supervised socialization (mom and pups that is). With my goats, I will literally lock mama babies and me in a small stall and sit for hours working on their nursing so that they can bond and function together because nothing substitutes a mama doing her job. I will hold mama in place and stimulate milk flow and get the kids up to nurse and help those babies figure out their job which they cannot do without energy-for goats it is a nutrient drench with molasses for your pups it would seem that a properly administered yt puppy milk mix would be the thing. I hope you can get them bonding before it is too late. Best of luck. |
My mommas are not allowed to wander around the house while they have newborns! She should be kept in a crate with those babues, so she is getting exposed to them continually....those babies need to be smelling momma and she needs to be bonding with her babies, not walking around the room! You will need to watch her when she is with them in her crate....this is the part that is soooooooo labor intensive for you....even if she had not had any issues, you always watch them closely, especially when it is their first litter....but she needs to be made to stay with them....she needs to be helping clean them...if you have to drom milk on their bottoms so she cleans it off.... |
Exactly Michele...your words ring pure and true. Right now the important thing is keeping her babies alive and continue to thrive. If Allie can't do it, it's entirely up to you to see that it gets done. It's just you, your husband and daughter right? Anyone else near by that can take a shift that you can trust totally with their care? God I pray this turns around for you and that Allie starts producing and wants to help take care of her girls...but right now she just doesn't know how...back to praying... |

I am just thrilled with the breeder input here, as I've said before I know absolutely nothing about breeding or raising the pups from the breeding, whether intentional or accidental. But the overall knowledge on this board is awe inspiring. Michele, soak in all the knowledge you can and I'll go back to praying. |
Praying for little Allie!!! |

Thinking of you , mom and pups . Hope all goes well :) |
Here is another method to try and get them to eat. Sponge Feeding. It gives step by step how to do it. Just an idea to try. |
