Is 6lbs big for a 4.5 month old?

Yes FryFry, Keno's ears are still floppy, actually they are half down, sometimes he keeps them half way up. I still see him put them up when he is intent on something to eat or chase. Unlike alot of people, I purposely looked for a larger yorkie, I wanted a 10 lb yorkie and mine turned out to be 14 lbs. He is long and tall at 13 inches tall and 13 inches long.

I saw both parents, female 6 lbs and male 5lbs. He was from a litter of 5, he was the only large one of the litter. 3 females who go 5 to 6 lbs and the other male was 5 lbs. He is the only one that stayed dark like the father. And it is true that the orginal yorkies were bigger dogs, at one time there were two classes of yorkshire terriers, those under 5 lbs and those over. These were shown in England. If you go way back in the breed history they were usually around 10lbs.

I took my Lola to the vet on 12/5 for her last shots and she weighed 6 lbs. and was 4.5 months. 3 weeks before she was 5.5 lbs. and 3 weeks before that she was 4.25 lbs lol! They said she was very healthy so I didn't worry about her weight since she gets plenty of exercise!

sounds like you are very happy with Leo and that size does not matter to you so that is fantastic because he sure looks like a doll. For me however size, color, and up right ears were important so I looked for a puppy around 14-16 weeks old. When you buy a puppy much younger than 12 weeks it is really hard to tell a lot of things.

I don't know about your research but the YTCA has researched the background of the YT better than anyone else I know. There are no official records that show what kind of dogs were used in the development of the breed although several have been suggested. Some think that the Scottish Terrier is one of the possibilities. The point, however, is that they were going for a small dog that could fit in walls and small holes much like the Rat Terrier of the time. They were not trying to develop a terrier that was larger.

The YTCA is still building their new site. Hopefully the more detailed history that they have will be back on it again soon. The actual origins of the breed will always be conjecture but it is interesting to see how the breed has developed over the years.

I also looked for a larger Yorkie! It's kind of funny how I got Leo. I met this guy who does local landscaping, and I was just casually talking to him. We got on the subject of dogs,and I found out he has 2 yorkies. I told him how much I love Yorkies, and I was looking for another one. Luck be hold, his wife breeds them, also. His female, Molly had just had puppies and there were 2 males left that hadn't been "called" for. When I found out his yorkies weighed 7lbs and 9lbs, I knew I had to put a deposit on one of the puppies..and now 4.5lbs later I have a healthy 6.12lb puppy (That's Zoey in the red, and Leo in the green)

my mocca is around 2 years old and he is around 5.5lbs.

the vet warned us not to let him gain anymore weigh as he will be considered over weight due to his size...

Honestly color can change for years so if your really set on a certain type it's best to get like a 1 or 2 year old. Heck Callie is 6 and her coloring just got darker. They also aren't completely fun grown until a year so size until then doesn't mean much because they can hit a growth spurt.

Kaji is only one inch shorter in each way. He's 12 inches from base of neck to base of tail, and 12 inches tall from the floor to the top of his head. He's my 8 lb baby and I really like his size. He can even go jogging with me.
