| I think the word 'hypo-allergenic' was glorified by mixed breed hybrid designer breeders...more of a marketing ploy. Yorkies don't shed, so they're less allergen producing. I'm allergic to pollen & they sometimes get pollen stuck on their hair while being outside. When I start making out w/them, I get the sniffles, sneezing & congestion. Rubbing them down w/wipes & brushing is a good idea if the pollen count is high outside. I have no idea what you would be allergic to if he hasn't been outside...dust? Or maybe the grooming product(s)? Coat Handler is an excellent product, but maybe try something else? Maybe you're allergic to something in the Coat handler. I had a customer say she was allergic to aloe & needed a shampoo w/out aloe.

I think it'd be a good idea to check the ingredients on all the products being used for the pup. Food, shampoo, conditioner, etc.. Process of elimination. At least you'll know what's NOT causing your allergies. | |

| We have had our girl for a week and I'm allergic to her (yet wasn't at all to my other 2 yorkies). I've got the whole itchy eyes, sneezing, stuffy nose (which has sometimes happened around labs, bulldogs etc) and my lungs are tight (which has never happened around any dogs ever!). I was around her fur family for 3.5 hours and didn't have any issues. Go figure! I'm taking zyrtec and flonase and seeing allergist tomorrow to ask about other meds. Also going to ask about shots. I got an air purifier (hasn't helped at all as far as I can tell), and dog was bathed the day after I got her and will be again today (so once a week). |

| It started later on during the second day (before bathing her, hence the bath lol). My 10 yr old is allergic to her too and is getting by with zyrtec although he will also be seeing the Dr tomorrow to make sure his lungs are ok. My other yorkies passed away several years ago but they both used to sleep with me and I never had so much as a sniffle. |

| I have noticed with some of the allergy prone family members that a certain tolerance is built up over time. Might take a month or two but we will not react to our own pets but somebody elses will still trigger us.

| That's why I think I'm overly sensitive. It's been 4 years that I've had Kaji, and I'm still sensitive. Here are some dog shampoos that will set me off too.

| one other thing - make sure your pup's coat is moisturized so there isn't more dander from being dry.

| I suggest you keep him in a short puppy cut and let someone else brush him when he needs it. The brushing is probably when you are most exposed to dander. Maggie has fairly short hair and just a fluffy face and scissor (not shaved) legs. I think she is still cute. I don't brush her very often at all. The only part that really need brushing is her ears after car rides, but she is part poodle and has floppy ears, so her ear hair is longer than a yorkie cut and tangles easily. Brushing once or twince a week is more than enough for her hair. Actually, I comb it, she HATES the brush. A comb might loosen less dander for you as well. |

| I and one of my daughters had the same issue with Jess. We bought air purifiers and that made it better. Eventually we didn't need them anymore. We built up our own immunity over time... |

| Thanks for all the replies, comforts, and suggestions. I am doing ok now with one Zyrtec daily. At first I was taking a few Claritan and a Zyrtec to cope with symptoms. Now my eye doesn't puff unless he somehow gets to lick it, lol. Now I've had him for a month. I hope I eventually build a tolerance. I'll look into injections for immunity if my reactions continue past his first birthday. -He will soon start puppy obedience and agility training so I imagine he will pick up dander being outside...
