| Help? Puppy has ticks We brought brownie home today. We did not rescue him we bought him from breeder. He is 4 months and after bringing him home today we notice he was scratching so much and noticed he had a tick! (I thin it's a tick, it had blood when I popped it with nails) We checked all over and got 5 more out I'm so sad and worried I hope he isn't sick. His vet visit isn't until Monday. What should I do? |

| Just so I'm clear, you brought your pup home today and found ticks on him the same day? How did you remove the tick? Are you sure you got the tick's head? Are you sure he's all up to date on his shots? Did you clean the bitten area? Check his yums and make sure they're pink and moist periodically. Also keep an eye on him to see if he's drinking/eating/playing normally. Maybe you should call the breeder you got him from make let them know. The biggest chance of him getting ticks.. I'm guessing would be with the breeder unless you took him out for walks? |

| You popped a tick w/your nail? I see one of those things & I freak out, can't touch it...maybe it was a flea? Ticks are kinda on the big side, esp if it's been engorged w/blood, they get real fat! If it was a tick, your guy needs to be seen by a vet, esp if that tick was engorged, they can pass tick borne diseases to your dog.

| Be very careful using flea/tick shampoo on a young pup. Read warnings. It really doesn't work all that well anyway. Depending on the age and weight of your pup, you are limited on which prevention meds you can use too. Ask a vet to be sure. I would suggest a bath with lots of shampoo or Dawn dish soap (often recommended for fleas), then rinse very well. It won't repel attached ticks, but will give you a good chance to spot them and remove them. Be sure to look in between the pads on the feet, and around ears. Try to limit places the pup lays until you get it under control, as ticks drop off in carpet and can lay eggs and multiply quickly.
