Yes, pet stores can be dirty. But if I were to hazards guess, I believe the floors there would be significantly cleaner than going on a walk down your neighborhood side walk, the local dog park or even across your back yard lawn. At least those floors are cleaned with bactericidal solutions daily. Personally, I think "people" stores are a lot more gross. |

Pet Store Visit Problems--germy floors? Yes, I enjoy taking Taffy into the small family-owned pet shop. I know there is not much room for large dogs, but smaller pets often come inside. The clerks immediately help if there are any accidents. Now, Pet Smart is so large that if the owners don't tell the clerks that their dog peed, then it may go unnoticed. I saw one boxer lift his leg and pee on a bag of dog food on a corner shelf! The owner was not paying any attention, chatting to a friend, so I let a clerk know, and they called for somebody to go to the aisle with a mop. I don't know what they did with the wet dog food bag! The trouble is as time goes on more and more pee scents end up all over these bigger stores, and it draws more dogs to want to leave their own marks. I usually let Taffy ride in the cart there because I feel it is cleaner for him up higher and there are Big dogs walking around on leashes quite often. I sure hope there is a lot of floor washing going on in the big stores--Yuck!! |

It's probably much safer to have your dogs up in a shopping cart simply because of the ignorant owners who let their pets run wild. |

I don't agree with that. I am much less afraid of the environment, and the animals which exist naturally in it which my Dogs are inoculated against, than I am of some store, where anyone can throw a rope around a Dog's neck, drag um in, and bring not only the Dogs problems in, but theirs too (nosocomials). I have a reasonably good idea what's in the environment, and NO idea what I'll run into in a store like that. But I wonder... Are you against the numerous other Breeds which Hunt (Coonhounds for instance) or is it just the Yorkshire ? |

Lowe's & Petsmart are the only stores where I take Milo. He LOVES going there & always gets very excited when he does. I usually hold him or have him in the basket when we're in the store & I always make sure that I let him potty outside first so I haven't really had a problem nor have I ever seen anyone else that has. I'm sorry to say though that some of my neighbors who walk their dogs seem to never give a thought about cleaning up after their dogs. It makes me so angry b/c I ALWAYS take a bag with me & clean up whatever Milo does. Without confronting them directly, I even made a point of discussing the issue with a couple of the women who do it & let them know how I felt about it. They never admitted their guilt even though I have seen it happen on more than one occasion. One of them even went so far as to lie about it---saying she always cleaned it up on her way back so that she wouldn't have to smell it while she walked! |
I never bag, but... When we go out, I'm on open public land almost immediately. Fields, along the Bayou, where really aren't any Trails, and I see many contributions from the indigenous. Droppings are actually quite helpful to my guys, locating the general area of Prey activity. |
