At the pet store do you pick/clean up your pets potty Do you pick up after your dog if they potty in the pet store? We always have, Callie only did it when she was a puppy and would get very excited to see people and pee. Sammy used to poo if he got really scared when my mom first got him but he only does that at the vets office outside now but he used to do it at the pet store now he normally just pees onetime but we still clean it up. Well we ran into the pet store to grab something last night and there was a very large breed puppy who was very excited to see us so after asking if we could say hello he peed out of excitement well it wasn't even as much pee as Callie used to pee so it was not a huge huge mess but we said bye and went on our business and on our way to the register we passed where the puppy peed and they didn't clean it up. There where 3 or 4 of them together and none of them cleaned it up they just walked away and left. It bothers me that people do that and I feel people like that our why some animal people get a bad name. I have noticed in a couple times at Petsmart or Petco where there has been new pee or even old pee mostly dried up its really gross and wrong in my opinion that people don't pick up after there dogs. |
Ugh yeah a lot of people don't clean it up, even in nicer pet stores. The worst I've seen was a big dog puppy was lifting his leg all over an aisle and the woman did nothing to stop him or clean it up. |
I hate it when people don't clean up after their pets in the store, or elsewhere. Gina has peed a few times in PetSmart, but I have always cleaned it up right away, and used the enzyme spray they have with the towels. I have seen and told an employee about a big pile that someones dog left in the middle of the isle. I feel sorry for the employee's that have to clean up after inconsiderate customers. Cheers Quad & Gina:aimeeyork |
Yep...did it today actually!! We made a trip to Petsmart first and then Petco. Within 5 minutes of being in Petsmart, one of them pooped and I had to clean it up...and then Ricky decided to lift his leg at the end of an isle...so I cleaned that up and then as soon as I was done, he peed on a pole and I cleaned that up, even though it was no more than a dribble. There have been times when the first 10 minutes in there is me running back and forth to the cleaning stations bc they take back to back poops and pee's...this is, of course, after we've spent a considerable amount of time trying to potty outside first:( Despite the various cleaning stations, I see piles of pee everywhere in there. IDK if people aren't paying attention to their dogs or they just don't care. Somehow, it doesn't surprise me though....there are lots of people who don't curb their dog in my neighborhood so why would they bother to do it at any other public place. Sadly, these are the people that give dog owners a bad rap. Maybe if everyone cleaned up after their dogs, business owners wouldn't as strict about pet policies. |
Charlie dropped a deuce just the other day at the pet store ! First time he ever did that, I was shocked !! I picked it up with a doggy bag, and asked for a spray. Not only did they refuse to let me clean it myself, they even took the doggy bag to dispose of it outside !!! I had only gone in to buy him a few bones, about 5 bucks. I felt so bad I ended up spending 40 in treats ! Now I just have to make sure Charlie didn't catch on to that :) |
I always have and always will. At pet stores, walks, at home... it's our responsibility as pet owners to clean up after them. I hate people who don't clean up after their dog. It's one of the reasons why places like Petco smell bad. :( |
Yep cause he is my dog and my responsibility. |
I'm kind of a freak because I don't take my baby to pet stores. If I did and she pottied in there, absolutely I would clean it up!!! I clean up when we go to outdoor places, too, even in the mountains. I absolutely hate when people don't pick up after their dog. |

When we first got Magnus.. No.. I know it's a weak excuse but I simply didn't know any better. I think that lasted a week or two. After I joined this site and read many posts, I learned a lot of "proper etiquette". I'm very thankful to this site and everyone that contributes. If I didn't bother to research, I'm sure I would've turn out to be "one of those people" that never cleaned up after their pet and everything else that comes with being a "good" pet parent. :) |
I believe it is the responsibility of the person with the pet to clean up, or to seek an employee of the store for help (paper towels, cleaners, etc). A pee puddle or poop is a slipping hazard, a gross one. |
Yes and always. Draco has had it it happen only a few times, but now I let him stop at the bushes right before we go in and he's fine. I've only had it once where I met a pup so excited they tinkled a little. I just told the owner "Aww someones very excited and told them where the cleaning stations are." I'm actually surprised Draco that the entire time I've had Draco he's only gotten excited and tinkled once. It was on an older cousin and we had a good laugh because we always make jokes about each other. |
I do everywhere I take jasmin. I hate hate people who don't pick up at the stores, parks and those whose dogs pooped in our yard and they just walked away. Arghhh. I am so tempted to put up a 6 ft fence in the front yard. |
I don't ever let mine on the floor in a pet store or any other store we take them. I worry to much what they might come in contact with, but I do get disgusted with people who do and don't clean up after them. |
I never take Gracie to the pet store. Actually I rarely go into one. Maybe people think there is someone there to clean up after them? Does the store employ someone to clean up after the pets? It seems that if they allow them in there that they would have to have someone in charge of clean up or at least making sure clean up materials are available. To think that people would just walk away from their pet's mess is just disgusting though. They should at least look for an associate and ask for clean up help. Still don't understand the concept of taking dogs to the store. |

I order everything I need for my dogs, on line. I would no more take one of my dogs to a pet store and allow them to walk around on the floor, than I would take one of my human babies into a public bathroom and allow that child to crawl all over the floor, from stall to stall. Dogs relieving themselves on the products and in the aisles......people that own pets and may or may not take care of them, vaccinate them, worm them, walking all over the store with unknown deseases on the soles of their shoes.....like Superman, I look at floors and actually "see" the floors seething and crawling with every disease known to pets!!! And then you walk thru all that, and bring it home on the bottom of YOUR shoes!!!! NOT ME!!!! |
If my dogs go into any store, they don't touch the floor. I cover a cart seat with a blanket that goes to the wash when I get home. I always pick up after my furbabys,in my yard, the neighborhood or out anywhere else. I didn't leave disposable diapers in parking lots when my kids were little either. Noone should ever assume that someone else is going to come behind them and clean up. What is wrong with people? |
My 3 have never gone potty or poo inside a store. Of course, I would clean it up if they ever do! Why would a person not clean up after there pet is beyond me! The pet stores I have gone in all provide items for your convenience to clean up after your pets. A "responsible" pet owner always takes care of the oops! |
absolutely I don't venture into them much but I needed stuff for my friends new puppy and they have sprays and wipes all over. I guess it's common courtesy |
Yes, it is cleaned up. Very unfair to other shoppers and employees to leave it. Ellie rarely goes to pet stores, Usually I carry her to try and prevent the need to clean up. lol. But sometimes she will poop from my arms she gets so excited. Anyway, I do let her be a dog. She is vaccinated for the things I'm most concerned about. Heck, dogs eat poop and lick their butts. So she is allowed to be on the ground if I feel like dealing with it. We don't do dog parks, but not sio much because of diseases transferred from other dogs. Germs are everywhere, including the sidewalk in front of our house. Not going to live in fear over that. An uncaccinated or severely immunocompromised dog would be different... |

I don't take Callie all that often mostly just for pet events at like Petco and Petsmart. I take her to the locally owned pet store more often probably. She is vaccinated so I feel safe letting her do it and she absolutely loves it and dogs lives are short so as long as its not hurting her I like for her to do as much as she can that she loves. I do use a sanitary spray on her paws after words most of the (time its made for dogs). If there is a dog that seems aggressive I just pick her up and we move on. I have done a lot or reading and research on dog body language so I feel like I know when its safe to be around a dog or not. Callie would hate being locked up in the house all the time she loves going places. We don't visit dog parks as often because Sammy comes over now and they run and play a lot and I was unhappy the last time we went with someone bring a aggressive dog they knew was aggressive into the dog park. My dog is vaccinated and her immune system is not compromised so I feel very safe. |
I take mine with me a lot but I am not only concerned about germs but larger dogs. In Petsmart they have days where you bring a specific breed. Last time we were there it was Greyhounds. Beautiful dogs but so much larger than our yorkies. I am not only fearful of aggressive ones but even ones who want to play and could hurt them unintentionally. Call me over protective but that is how I am. Mine are allowed to be dogs and run and play with others but I try to keep it to smaller ones closer in size to them. |
I work at a ski/camping resort and honestly you cannot believe the people who bring their dogs and do not pick up the number 2. I am the only one who walks my dogs here and picks up their poop. It is horrible and very disrespectful and I agree with you gives us who do pick up in a whole a bad name as animal owners who want to bring our pets to places with us. I always clean up after my babies and wish others would be the same. |
I don't take my dogs to the pet stores even though they are tiny and can be carried. I personally think it is disgusting to have animals peeing and pooing all around dog and cat foods, etc. On top of that, who says those animals are properly vaccinated? |

Not a sure fire thing! There ARE cases where vaccinated dogs do contact diseases they have been vaccinated against....it may not happen often, but that IS a disclaimer on vaccination programs! |

The Immune system in your dog, is not predicated or based on how many germs/diseases/filth you pup comes in contact with. They are born with an immune system.....Provided there is no genetic issue at birth where the immune system is compromised, you enhance their system with available vaccines, given properly.....and in most cases, this will keep your dog protected, IF the dog did not have a compromised immune system to start with.....or developed a compromised immune system through some disease process or the treatment received for a disease process. I do not feel the need to take the risk of possibly letting my dogs get exposed to diseases that are shed in places where dogs with questionable/unknown vaccine protocols/records are wondering around. I do not think such exposure does anything for my pup's immune systems, which are already established and protected and enhanced without such exposure..... I may be completely incorrect, (I would need a credible immunologist to explane to me my error in thinking as I do) but I dont think so....and I sleep better at night knowing my babies have not been exposed to those areas! |
