I order everything I need for my dogs, on line. I would no more take one of my dogs to a pet store and allow them to walk around on the floor, than I would take one of my human babies into a public bathroom and allow that child to crawl all over the floor, from stall to stall. Dogs relieving themselves on the products and in the aisles......people that own pets and may or may not take care of them, vaccinate them, worm them, walking all over the store with unknown deseases on the soles of their shoes.....like Superman, I look at floors and actually "see" the floors seething and crawling with every disease known to pets!!! And then you walk thru all that, and bring it home on the bottom of YOUR shoes!!!! NOT ME!!!!

Yes, I order most of my pet products online as well. Most of the chain pet stores do not stock the kind of products I use anyway not to mention the prices in those stores are outrageous.
I learned a long time ago that just going into a vet's office is a threat to my healthy pets. I always use a carrier and try to wait until it is time for our appointment outside if possible and then use the side entrance.
It's true that many people do not keep up with their dog's health maintenance and many only end up at the vet when there is a problem AND I have yet to see anyone cleaning the waiting room even though sick and injured pets have been traveling through the room for hours on end. I would have to guess that no one is going through the pet store sanitizing the floors throughout the day either.
It is fun to take the pet out for an outing now and then but I am very choosey about where that outing will be.

Yes, it is cleaned up. Very unfair to other shoppers and employees to leave it.

Ellie rarely goes to pet stores, Usually I carry her to try and prevent the need to clean up. lol. But sometimes she will poop from my arms she gets so excited.

Anyway, I do let her be a dog. She is vaccinated for the things I'm most concerned about. Heck, dogs eat poop and lick their butts. So she is allowed to be on the ground if I feel like dealing with it. We don't do dog parks, but not sio much because of diseases transferred from other dogs. Germs are everywhere, including the sidewalk in front of our house. Not going to live in fear over that. An uncaccinated or severely immunocompromised dog would be different...

Very true. Especially since Kaji LOVES to go to these stores and just say hi to all the doggies. I'd feel bad taking that away from him. However, if he was sick, he would definitely not go to the stores with me.

Absolutely!

I do. I bought those bags, YOu put your hand in them and pick them up and turn them inside out then have to walk with a bag of poop until you get to a trash. It's the respectful thing to do. I live by a elementary school too and kids would step in it if I didn't. More reason to.

It annoys me when people don't clean up after their dogs...anywhere.

The worst I've seen was a big dog puppy was lifting his leg all over an aisle and the woman did nothing to stop him or clean it up.

I just had to giggle @ this...how can you stop a dog mid pee? Lolll! Can they actually hold/ stop it when they've already let the dam down?:p

I am in the bad habit of scanning and not reading threads today. You are talking specifically about pet stores. (blush) Yes i pick up his poo there too.

Pet stores and everywhere really. :)

Call me paranoid...

But when I do take my guys to a Pet Store, I put a towel down in the bottom of a Shopping Cart, all of them in the Cart right out of the venicle, and we go from there.

1: I don't let them touch ANYTHING in the Store.
2: I always take my Adult Male (if any) and he won't let anyone get close enough to us, for any petting to take place. So, I'm ok there.
3: Then it's back out to the Vehicle and directly in and they don't even touch the ground.

Those stores just seem to be the nastiest places around.
Sorry, I just can't help it.

Maybe to try to help educate those of us who do? I for one appreciate Judy's knowledge.:)

Thanks! I think we can ALL learn from ANY post here, regardless of how smrt we are or how well informed we are on ANY given topic! I would be very disappointed to see a restriction that dictates if any topic is not directly affecting you personally, dont bother opening or contributing your opinion/experience/knowledge! This is an area of concern that many people have not even given thought to.

I definitely clean up after Roxie the few times we have taken her to Petsmart near us. I stopped taking her when an employee told us a sick pet threw up on the floor so we should use a cart. Ever try to pick up a 60# bulldog who's all muscle and only a head shorter than you standing? I don't advise it. I will take Rasta but he is always in his carrier and his feet never touch the floor to relieve himself in anyway. He's way too small, I don't want to have to worry about him getting stepped on or someone touching without asking :D
