thank you Dawn, apology accepted, you are right I did not realize you were joking, so I wanted to make it clear that while I am not a fan of leaving a dog in the road I would never suggest just taking it for keeps. To me removing a dog from what I felt was a dangerous situation and then trying to find out all the details to either return it to the owner or the authorities is a far cry from dog napping so I was really surprised by your reply, but now I see you were just trying to lighten the subject, no problem, glad we are still friends and that you don't think of me as a potential dog napper:p After further reading I am saddened to think that the owners think it is fine for the dog to live outside and that a few others think that is sort of OK, it will only be a matter of time till some harm comes to that dog. Every city is different but I would still try to alert the closest humane society to see if they felt like intervening or at least talking to the owners. I know here in MI the humane society goes out on calls about dogs left outside all the time and some of the calls are just to educate. Oh well enough said, I think by now you all know my feelings:D:D:D |
Gees, I really love this Forum. Though opinions differ, seeing the genuine heart full concern which has been demonstrated here, makes me very proud to be a Member. |

I confess, I would be a dognapper in this situation....I'd rather give this pup a full chance...than half a chance. |
i confess along with lynzy and I agree with a supersized steak and standing on the other side of the road until I could lure the lil pup in..... i cannot stand to see any animal left outside and not loved as part of the family. makes me so sad..everyday to see the neglect and abuse innocent animals endure due to careless humans. im very thankful for all you tried to do though to make sure that pup was taken care of. |

I would like to think of it as an animal rescuer:) |

Don't have to worry about My Adult Female Becca engaging a Possum. Female Yorkies are not usually "fighters". She will (and has) held the Possum at bay, called for the Pack, and wagged her tail vigorously as she saw her Alpha Male beat the Possum up. I know it sounds funny, but, this HAS happened ! |
OK, I kind of read through this quickly but I think the resolution was that the sheriff looked into this and says there is nothing they can do because the dog has access to water?:confused: I understand the sheriff did what their agency was required to do (the very least) but they are hardly humane experts. I don't know how different things are in the south but in my state every country is required to have a humane agency that handles abuse and neglect cases, as well as strays. In the past I have lived in the south and I know certain areas have flea and tick issues that people in the north have never experienced. It can be horrible, with ticks swarming on animals and draining their blood supply very badly. A small dog would not be able to withstand that kind of onslaught for very long. The tick SpotOn treatments (which it is unlikely this dog has) do not prevent ticks from latching onto a pet. They do eventually kill the bug but not until after the tick is fully engorged. If you went online and did a search for a humane agency that covered your area you should be able to find one. At the very least you should be able to find someone else who will join you in advocacy for this little one. Sometimes it takes a few voices joining together to get something done for those who cannot speak for themselves. There are laws that regulate abuse and neglect and this little animal is certainly neglected and endanger. Between the extremes in temperature and dangers of other weather conditions, plus the lack of a real shelter and decent food and water (who says clean, fresh water is actually in the bowl all day and night?) that little dog is suffering. Compare those conditions with the way dogs are treated at a puppy mill and it would be a toss up on who has it worse. |

I just want to say (again) thank you. You had a choice whether to get involved or not, and you chose to not close your eyes and forget about it. I would like to think that we all would make the same decision, but I doubt it. |

It doesn't make me wrong, or, you either for that matter. |
You did the right thing by talking to the owners but I wouldn't have been that rational. I don't see how anybody can love a dog and then mistreat it. I guess some people might think of this as dognapping, I see it as rescue. Maybe I'm crazy but that's just how I am. |
