Good for you for staying involved in it for this dog, hopefully it checks out and the situation with the owner is a fluke and normally they take better care. I trust your judgement- if you say the dog is in danger, then I hope there is a way you or AC can intervene for the sake of this little one. Good luck & keep us posted! |
Such a difficult position to be in for sure!! I give you kudos for seeing the problem and trying to do what you can about it... legally. All the very best in this adventure and I hope for the best of outcomes. If it were me, I wouldn't leave my number on their door, just in case they were not very nice people, 'cause they'd know my number then. Of course, having said that, if they were getting rude with you by phone, you could always change your number. Again, Kudos to you both. This dog is very fortunate that you and your fiance are taking an interest in it's welfare. I look forward to more updates. Cheers! |
I could never live with myself if I saw a dog left outside like that. I would take the dog and leave a note on the door with my phone number. If they want the dog they'll get in touch with you. |
I'm the type person who is rather bold about such matters. IF there was any actual evidence (besides just being outside) of that animal being mistreated, I'd pick the little guy up, and it would be the last time it's "previous" owner saw it. However, just being outside is not mistreatment assuming the animal had a choice. I have a Doggy Door, and my guys come in and go out as they please. Our Dogs (mine anyway) are not stupid. If (and it has occurred) they see a threat which they can't deal with, they retreat, bark like hell, and get me to deal with the problem. How would you feel, if someone took your Dog on an assumption. |
I hope the authorities are hurrying up to find the owners of the house. Question... If you know the address or can find out what the address is, can't you find a phone number to the house as well? I was just thinking that if there's actually someone living there, they'd have a phone and answering machine set up? If not, maybe it's abandoned or just vacant. I've heard of people moving and just leaving their pets behind... I really hope this isn't the case. |
Thank you for caring!! It really sounds like the pup belongs there. Hoping you find out soon. Glad to hear that you have the police involved so that you do not put yourself in harms way. I live in the country too and would never leave my little ones outside but my larger dogs are in and out as they please. Wishing you and the Yorkie the best of luck! |
I certainly agree, that contacting the Authorities (Animal Control) is better than stealing the Dog, and, there were no statements in Post 1 that the residence seemed abandoned. Country Folks don't always handle their animals like those who live in the City. But, as several have pointed out, one can just simply go up to the door and knock. However, in Texas rural areas, it's better if you stayed in your Vehicle and honked. It's possible that the little guy have a much larger Pack Mate, who would not be amenable to your violation of their territory. |
Oh my gosh, I'd of taken him! I'm so scared to even let my yorkie outside to pee because the grass I have in the front isn't fenced and I live on the bay, we have giant foxes, 4 of them live on my street and I see them outside my kitchen window they circle the place and people have their cats outside... :( My aunt had a kitty that went missing for 2 days, we found that a fox had gotten her, it wasn't pretty and she was only let out to pee because she wasn't litter box trained, poor thing. |

I can only hope the authorities will check up on the residence of the home quickly. |

No Taylor that is not true, it is a stereotype IMHO. I know many non gun owners that live in texas! But in the country just like here in NY people tend to keep more guns, I'm sure that is true everywhere in the "country" rural areas. I wouldn't suggest anyone go knocking on anyones door at night anymore, rural or not....but anywho. There is definitely a AC person somewhere in that area. This can be easily addressed by calling the Sheriff next time you see the dog and tell him about the danger of the dog and ask the Sheriff to knock on the door so that a resolution can be had. This is deeper than it should be, IMHO. |

Alright y'all they found out who owned the dog. The dog does love outside full time since the people who love their are gone a lot during the day. They got Tia dog from another family member and no they did not want to sell it or give it up. I offered. The sherriff said there was nothing further we could do since the dog is on the property and has access to water. The dog weighs 5 pounds. I hate this was how it was resolved and I really feel bad for this little guy. I wish there was something more I could do. |
Sorry for the typos I am posting from my phone. |
