So sad I would at least throw some food and give it some water.. It's probably just drinking dirty water and eating whatever it can find to survive.. I realize you can not take someone's dog. But you also can not drive by and watch one starve to death. Are you sure someone lives there? Could it be An older person who can not hear you knock? |

Or better yet, maybe contact the police and see if there is anything that they can do. Just be careful if you do. Quote:

I would call AC. |

Moral of that story is, if you think an animal is not being properly cared for, and if no AC, call 911. That will create a paper trail and allow follow up. Look up local laws/ordinances & see if there are specifics that you can tell are being broken, just to give your complaint a little more bite. |
she said earlier she lives in a small town there is no AC Wow if dogs are in a fenced in area and I am sure the neighbor knew she took great care of her pets that's just wrong. And very sad. This situation sounds a little different as she said there is no fence and the dog could get to the road. Hoping they find out its being taken care of But worried it really is not. |
There are many options I would try, but I would NEVER drive away several days in a row leaving a yorkie or really any other dog outside when no one is home. Here are some ideas. Make some phone calls to find out who takes care of loose dogs in that area, I am sure there is some agency that has jurisdiction over strays in the county a quick call to the non emergency police or sheriffs office could probably tell you that. Then depending what you find out would set up you next step. If they were unwilling or not able to pick up the dog quickly you could go back there with your boyfriend and if possible some of his friends, LOL maybe his hunting riffle close by would not be a bad idea. Knock on the door, if no one was home I would knock on some of the neighbors doors to see what I could find out. You could also bring your smart phone and do a reverse address lookup, perhaps they will be listed with a phone number or at least their names. Depending on what I found out from neighbors I may or may not leave the cell number of your boyfriend on their door. Bring treats some water, some food, a leash, collar and a carrier and go see if the dog is still there. Then if you do take the pup in, make sure you let the authorities know where he is and why you took him, then take him to the vet for a chip scan. But to leave him there and just keep talking about it is very sad |
Thank you I just want to say thank you for caring. These days its gotten so easy to just ignore things that might be questionable instead of actually taking the time and effort to investigate. My only advise is to be safe and careful. Again, thank you.     Shannon |
I wanted to add that I know you said no one lives on their street, trying checking with people that live on the next street over or on the street that leads into their street. My situation was different but in my old sub a little weiner dog was always in the road when I would drive out, I brought it home time and time again, sometimes the people were not even aware the dog was out and a few times they were not even home. I started to hate these people and had many words with them. Well eventually the dog was killed by a car. I realize the area this dog is in is rural but if the pup likes to lay in the road something will eventually happen. |
Have you considered taking the pup and leaving a note with your phone number on it so they can call you if they want the dog back? I would explain that I was concerned that the dog could come to some harm out there by it's self and that is why you took it. I think that would be legal and not considered stealing. |
Oh this is such a sad story Please keep us updated I pray this little dog can get the help and love that it needs before something bad happens to it |
I have only been by once to see the dog and my fiancee has twice. I am not just leaving it there, the first time we saw it was later at night and I did not want to walk into someones yard at 9:00 at night and try to get the dog. Where we live you don't do that unless you want to be shot at. Yesterday when y fiancee went and saw it he could not get it although he tried. He said he had some leftover hamburger in his truck and he tried to use that but the dog would not come to him. He was not sucre whether to leave his name and number on the door so he didn't. One of his cousins is a police man in the town and he said there is nothing they can do if the dog is in front of the house in the road or in the yard. His cousin went by earlier this morning and said that he did not see the dog anywhere. He did say though that he saw a water bowl. He thought he knew who it was that lived there but he wasn't sure and was going to check on that. As for asking other houses nearby, there aren't any around. There are only two dirt roads on opposite ends of this road and all that are on those is farmland. We were advised to not do anything about it at the moment and just let them see if they can find out who owns the house. |
I promise y'all I am trying everything I can to make sure this baby is safe. Like I said earlier I live 40 minutes from this house so I can't just drop by everyday. I am trying my best though. |
