And no I saw no shelter. It was a very old house. You could tell that people still lived there, but there was not any kind of dog pen or fence or house or anything outside except a lot of old junk cars. |
I can't imagine leaving a 4 lb. Yorkie outside. Poor pup! I say try to find out if it belongs to them. If not..take it. If it does then I would tell them some horror stories!! |
I am sorry you had to see this horrible situation, and that the poor doggy is out there alone. I would be afraid to go to the door. Can you contact the local animal warden? I believe most counties have ordinances about shelter and basic care. |
I would pick him up and take him home but leave a note on the door if no one is home just saying you found a small dog in the area and where wondering if it was there's and leave your phone number. If they respond and it's theres and they come and get him and he ends up the same way as before then I would call animal control because I think the law every where is they have to have shelter, food and water. |
If the dog was in the road, AC should be called immediately. If no owner is in sight I'd probably take the dog to AC myself. If it is on public property with no owner in sight then it would not be dognapping to take it to AC. |
So did you go back today? And what did you find out? |
bad owners love their dogs too they just may not be as protective of them |
I didn't get to go back by today since my fiancée lives like 40 minutes away from me but he went by this morning and said that he saw it up under a old car in the yard. He knocked on the door but people in the house weren't home. He tried to get the yorkie to come to him but he seemed very skittish. It's a small town so there isn't really an animal control to call. We are going to keep checking and see if we can talk to the people. |

Poor thing!!! Maybe you could bring some yummy treats along with you and see if you can coax it up to you....maybe some kind of meat that will have a strong smell to it. Just be careful!! Trespassing on someone's property for too long could be dangerous....especially out in the country where someone's got a lot of junk on their property to protect. |
We all know that this is not a typical situation for any small pup of any breed to be in but just because you do not agree with the way the owners take care of or the situation they leave their pup in does not mean that you or anyone else except the warden/police have the right to take this pup away from its home. What you or I may think is horrible or inhumane may not be so just because you see a pup running loose in and about an unpopulated area. Its apparent that this pup can only belong to this family and for you to deem them unfit to have this pup just for the way they allow their dog, Yorkie or otherwise to run free in is not your place. The pup evidently know its place and boundaries and is comfortable being alone in the outdoors. Not what myself or anyone would consider the best of situation for a Yorkies or any other small breed pup but it is not our place to judge. Unless you can prove without a doubt that this pup is being harmed, unfed and not receiving the basic every day needs there is nothing you can do. Other than to express your concerns to the owners. But for you to just take this pup would be wrong! |
Dogs is off leash and unfenced. I don't know about AL, but in MI that is against the law. Taking a pup to the county shelter (not your hoe) if it is in the road unattended is way different than stealing. |

Does it look like someone is feeding and watering it? I just feel bad and I think you are doing the right thing. Maybe it is not there dog if it is skittish and scared of people. Maybe a stray just hanging out there. |
