I read once that you should not put your pet's name on the ID tag because it would just help a thief get your dog to go with him/her. Really the most important info is the info that will get your pet home. No one needs to know the pet's name but they do need to know how to contact you.

Since Gracie's tag is so small there wasn't much room on it so I have my cell and a family member's cell number on it.

Most of the time if it's a small dog you can't read the tag unless you have them. Also if they really want the dog names not gonna mean much there's always food and other ways to get the dog.

Well, I like to believe that there are still good & honest people out there who would return a missing dog. They'd have to have your dog regardless of size in order to get the information off the tag & then return the dog to you anyway- otherwise what's the point of tags for little dogs at all, if they're just gonna get kept?

I still like the idea of withholding the name- I want it to be easy to return my dog, not steal her.

I could see this for certain dogs. But Jackson would never come to someone he did not know, even if they were calling his name, lol. So I'm personally not worried about it. And yes, people will use means of food anyway usually.

I have a couple of different tags they are different colours to match different harnesses, they all have a glittery dog paw design so are only engraved on the back,

I'm sure there are lots of ways to get a friendly dog to go with a thief. I think the article I read was generalized. Knowing a dog's name does help to befriend it and perhaps get it to be more friendly to a new family. Knowing the dog's name can also help a thief befriend a dog that was supposed to be guarding the house when they broke in. Most of our larger dogs would have given the whole house away if the thief knew their name or not.

It is quite easy to read Gracie's tag with the phone numbers on it. I would rather have two important phone numbers on it than her name and just one phone number.

Gina on the front, and street address and cell#, plus her rabies tag is with her other tag. I had a Brittany that got loose once in Greensboro, I was calling her over and over, she had her tag with our old GA# on it. The people who found her, let her in to their business, and called the Vet's# from the rabies tag, the vet had our new# and called us. Just goes to show what you can forget to update, when you move, especially with small kids.

* we just had new tags made. No address since my hubby is military and we move around alot. No names because we have them both microchipped and all info is registered with that and I'd rather a thief not know my dogs' names especially since Rasta's is pretty unique. I put reward on there since most people are likely to return them if they're offered reward $$$$...sad but true.

We were also told not to put the dogs names on the discs. We were told, it shows the police that the thief doesn't own the dog, if he/she doesn't even know it's name...and the true owner can via microchip prove it's real name.

Yeah but not every dog comes when there called so whoever stole them could make up any name and could take there tag off pretty quickly if they see a cop.

The omission of the dog's name is just a suggestion that owners can take or leave. It certainly may be one option that, added to other methods people employ, may help to get the dog home safely. The dog doesn't need it's name on the tag since it knows it's name anyway (and most likely can't read it) and the person who finds the dog doesn't need the dog's name either.....if they intend to return the animal that is.

On the back, I have my name and my cell along with my husbands cell #.
I also have the word microchipped engraved below our cell #s.
