Take pictures if you see her tied outside as tying a dog to a restraint is illegal in some states. You may be this dog's only real friend right now so how you present this to the authorities and document and f/u with it may be its only chance. This dog would be much better off with a true doglover who will treat the little thing with care and loving attention and spoil it silly 24/7.

I did this for several reasons, first to teach him a lesson since they charge you a fine, second to see if he really wanted the dog. I called to let him know the dog was at the pound and he told me he was not sure if he would pick him up, he like so many parents got the dog for his daughter who did not take care of him like she said she would, he was not that fond of the dog, found him to be a pain to take care of. I also had called the pug rescue league and told them about the pug, they planned to work with the pound when the dog cleared the waiting period for adoption. Well the owner never came for the dog and according to the pound he went home with a nice family the day after he was elligble for adoption. I like to think that story had a happy ending

Few things to keep in mind, you can not grab up a dog just because it is wandering, and most rescue groups and animal shelters can not either. But the county or township shelter can. Based on my experience if you feel the dog is not in a family that seems to care, do what I did, this way the owner have a chance to step up and if they want the dog will have to pay a fine and most people don't like paying fines over and over. If they don't want the dog then you can alert other people to adopt the dog from the pound. Or like someone else suggested offer to take the dog off their hands or put them in contact with the member here that said they will take the dog. You also should tell them that the next time you find the dog wandering for it's own safety you will be calling animal control to pick it up that you are done keeping it for them until they can get home.

I say this often, finding a lost dog and returning it home is sometimes so upsetting because you realize how often the dog is just loose because the owners don't really give a dam. I have returned about 4 stray dogs and it bothers me to say that I never once got that warm and fuzzy feeling of being so happy to reunite a beloved dog with their owner.

That would be a great solution

If you were to see this little girl when you were out walking and she happened to follow you home you could call the police to come pick her up. If she has no ID on her she will go to the local shelter where you can keep an eye on her to see if the owner picks her up or not. If they care enough to notice that she is not there when they get home then they would check the shelter first. They would be faced with the fine for not being licensed and for letting her run as well. I imagine the shelter would have a fee for keeping her for a couple of days. They will have to decide if they think she is worth bailing out. You can bet if they pay the fine one time they most likely will not pay it again.

My neighbor had a teeny tiny yorkie that they kept in the backyard ALL the time

She used to get under the fence and run into our house any time our back door was open. I always felt so bad for her. I think she ended up giving her to her mother, thank goodness.

Yorkie's are not a outdoor dog! I feel so bad for this little girl, and its getting very cold outside. I live so very close to the OP that I would have gone there myself and got this little girl if the owners didn't want her or wouldn't bring her in the house!

Angry loose dog

I am so sorry I haven't updated this story. I was sick and out of the loop for awhile. I had an incident with the little yorkie today. I bought (by the way it is a him) him and put him in our yard. I was looking at him and he was covered with fleas. I called my vet and my husband went a got a pill for him that would kill the fleas from the inside. I then put topical flea medicine on him. I went to his house and put a note on the door telling them to call me. She called and said that he keeps getting out of his harness. I talked to her about his flea problem and told her what I did. I told her that yorkies do not have the hair to keep them warm outside in the winter. She said she didn't know what to do about the fleas as she was giving him baths with Dawn soap--UGH!!! I told her that I would love to buy him and give him a home but she said her little boy loves him. I called the Humane Society today and talked to them again--found out their is nothing they can do and Mountain Home does not have a leash law! I had her come to my home to pick him up and told her again that if he is to much work I would gladly buy him from her. Their are a couple of AR ladies who said they would take him---and I feel that would be well spent money on my part to just not have him to worry about!!

That poor little thing! I think I would have just kept her, or found someone that really wants her. I don't know what I would do without my baby girl. I take her everywhere I can take her and when I cant she goes in a playpen or her kennel. She is only 5 months old so she can have the run on the house yet. I sure hope you were able to help this little girl.
