Naming your Yorkies - how did you come up with yours? I thought I'd start this fun thread on how we got our furrbaby's names. I find it interesting how people came up with the name. My Bailey was named so because when he joined our family he had mostly black hair, with a bit of beige. As I like Baileys Irish Cream from time to time, and the beige reminded me of Baileys, I decided on to name him that. Hindsight, it is usually a girl's name, so most people assume he is a she.:( How did you come to name your YT what you did? |
Gizmo came from the movie Gremlins since Yorkies have that similar look to the gremlins, before water touches them of course, we went with that. Well Gizmo is a super ball of energy and always causing lots of mischief and getting into everything that he shouldn't so he lives up to the Gizmo name. Cici was adopted at 3 months and was already named so we didn't pick that one. |

I am obsessed with the movie Legally Blonde and when I first got Ellie she was so prissy and girly and I didn't want to call her just Elle so I added an I and that's how I got her name. It just seemed to fit! And she was my little saving grace so that's how I got Ellie Grace! And I always loved the name Lilly Anne and she responded to that immediately after we called her that so that's what stuck! :) |

Dallas came with the name, and I liked it so I didn't change it. Rory got hers because I wanted a little girl to be my princess. The most obvious princess name I could think of was Princess Aurora, so that's what we called her but over time it became Rory, which also works because we loved Rory from Doctor Who. lol She got her middle name (Jayne) because my daughters' names are Brittany Layne and Sierra Shayne and we decided to make hers rhyme. Jayne was a perfect fit. So now she gets called Rory Jayne most of the time. She only gets called Aurora when she's in trouble. :-P |
The name Bronx came to mind from Bronx, New York I think it fits his personality he is so aggressive to be so Tiny! I'm planning on getting a girl and naming her Harlem or Brooklyn! |
My dad suggested Max because he thought he needed a strong name, because Max looks intense and serious. I agreed if it could be for Maximus from the movie Gladiator. Our Italian neighbor pronounced it Massimo, "The Greatest." We changed it to Maximo. Teddy was named for Teddy Roosevelt because he loves the outdoors and is energetic, loves life. :) |

Love the reasons. How fitting for the girl names:) My 7.5lb gets his 'Cugo' on when he meets larger dogs. Unfortunately it is for good reason, as he got bite a couple times by them:( At first he is friendly, but when they show interest that's when he goes Cugo. I guess it's the 'big dog' mentality in him. haha |

Princeton because he came with the name "Prince." I added onto it because I liked the name Princeton. Ricky came to me under the name of Scrumpy....and Scrumpy did fit him well because he was thin with bean poles for leg and he had stringy hair , but I was hoping he'd grow out of his scrumpy little self, so I renamed him Freeway Ricky Ross because he had escaped his last owners and was running around wild and on the road until someone set a live trap and caught him. There's a criminal named Freeway Ricky Ross, which is how I got the name. Sometimes I call him Ricky Bobby as well...after the movie with Will Ferrell. My cat is named Margo Kidders after the actress Margo Kidders! |

Bella's full name is Mia Bella Bambina, which loosely translates to My Pretty Little Girl. |
Wylie Flupiter Fitzsmudge - named after poet Eleanor Wylie; 'Flupiter' is bc of his innate 'floopiness', and Fitzsmudge as a nod to Fitzgerald, but with whimsy. Marcel Verdel Purcell - Marcel after Marcel Proust, Verdel after the dog in "As Good As It Gets". Purcell bc it rhymed and made his name complete. Pfeiffer - we wanted a more androgynous name for a girl and out of our list, this just totally fit her. We decided to let her be like Madonna or Cher, where she didn't even need a middle or last name :D. |
Years ago my husband and I watched Gunsmoke all the time. I ended up naming two of my pups Mr. Dillon and Miss Kitty after two of the stars of that show. Dillon and Miss Kitty both just turned 10 years old. None of the other yorkies I have were named after tv characters. |
I was down in New Zealand last year and saw the cutest little blue penguins, so when I saw this video I loved the name Cookie. I was originally going to name Cookie after the brightest star, Deneb, in the constellation Cygnus (the swan constellation), but in the end Cookie sounded cuter and more playful. |
Max's name was chosen by his former owners, and we never even thought to change it! Teeka Kiara is named in memory of our first yorkie....Tameka. Kiana is her given name by the breeder and we liked it so kept it! Tatiana Rose is a name I just love for it's meaning..... Princess! Rose is my favorite flower which is so beautiful from the very first bud until full bloom! That is how I see Tatiana Rose...a beauty from first sight and still blooming into a magnificent girl! |
Teddy's brother was named regan and we thought it would be fun to keep up the presidential theme, plus he looked like my daughters stuffed teddy. My husband named bear because he thought it would be cute with teddy Teddy & bear |
