Piper and Jilly My daughter gave me a list of "cool" names and I picked Piper for my first Yorkie I saw the card playing yorkie named Jilly and thought the little dog was so cute and loved the name.....thus my second yorkie is Jilly. |
I actually had a few names to choose from weeks before I picked my furbaby up. After we brought him home and watched his personality for a few days none of them seemed to fit. Then I was on YouTube one day and watched a video of a pet skunk...his name was Jasper. When I heard his name I thought...THAT'S IT! He has been Jasper ever since and his suits him. :) This is a great thread! |

I totally forgot to add his middle name, Redd. I could not come up with a good name myself so, I asked my YT friends to help me think of one. One member came up with Jasper Redd who is a comedian from Tennessee. Our home state. And our Jasper Redd is hilarious most of the time. There isn't a day that goes by that he isn't making us laugh. But...I only call him Jasper Redd when he is in trouble. :p |
Dolly Doodle because I love the name Dolly & a Yorkie named "Doodle" inspired me to get Dolly-my first dog ever at the age of 49! I got Teena when she was 2 yrs old & she answered to her name of Tila Tequilla. (Tila Tequilla, in case you don't know, is a little sexy bombshell on MTV.) My baby didn't resemble her at all, so I slightly changed her name to Teena. |
We wanted an Italian name - so we chose Lorenzo - Enzo for short :) Enzo means "Ruler of the House" He truly lives up to his name ;) |
For both of our Yorkies, we made up a list of names and narrowed it down as we got to know each pup. "Keegan Riley" just seemed to fit our boy--his litter-mate belongs to my mom and was already named "Dorris Jean", so he needed a middle name, too. Our new baby was so quiet the first few days...but when she finally "piped up" she probably could be heard for blocks. Thus, Piper. We added a personality-based first name later and she is now our "Merry Piper." |
Presley was named after Elvis... Too obvious? |
When we adopted our Bailey at 6 months, the people said they named him Bailey. So, we kept it! |
Dino had no name for almost a month! I wanted a name that my billingual family could pronounce easily. One day I was watching the flinstones and decided Dino was the perfect name. It really does suit him and I can't imagine him with any other name. Mr. Bucket was a rescue, his original owner named him Bucket because they had a leaky roof and when he was a puppy he would knock over all the buckets on the floor that collected the water. When I got him I changed Bucket to be his last name and named him Charlie Bucket from Willy Wonka. We call him Mr. Bucket :D |
Eddie was sort of a re-home, and he came with the name of Teddie -- TJ for short. Since TJ is my wife's ex's name, we wanted something that sounded like "Teddie" and chose "Eddie." It's been a good fit. Jillie was named after a beloved Yorkie I owned who died named Jack. I was looking at a tribute to him, so I named her Jill. I've never regretted it and think of Jack all the time because of her name. Jack was a tiny rescue I got when he was 10 and frail. His name was Cuddles. Sorry, no way a guy could own a tiny little dog named Cuddles, so I named him the machoest thing I could think of at the time -- Jack, for Jack Daniels. He more than lived up to the name. In fact, he was such a strong Alaska that I later changed his name to Yukon Jack :) |
I came up with Si, because Uncle Si on Duck Dynasty has silver hair w/beady eyes, like my boy Si! |
Joel from Good Charlotte:p |
Jackson was named because of the Johnny Cash song 'Jackson'. We had just watched the movie based on him called Walk the Line and couldn't get the song out of our head. So when I was getting a puppy, I kept staring at his pic trying to come up with a name and Jackson just stuck. Plus I feel like it was always such a 'manly' type name and he is SUCH a boy! I also am a fan of Michael Jackson, so it worked. :) |

My family is unusually (ahem, throat clear) diverse in their political leanings. Thank goodness is love supersedes strong opinions at holidays. LOL. When our Yorkie pup came into our lives, I asked our youngest son to name him. At the time he was working for a (US) presidential candidate's institute .... with the word Liberty in its name, so he chose the name Liberty. I liked that as it is such a unifying concept. Can't imagine him as named anything else now. He is Mr. Stinky Butt when he's in trouble. |
My Willow was named by her Foster Mom before we adopted her . I added the middle name Grace, so she is Willow Grace. My Allie who we adopted 2 1/2 yrs ago, she was an owner turn in to Rescue and her was Alex, I didn't like it as it sounded like a male so I renamed her Allie Nicole. My Luci, she was a rehome I adopted. Her previous owner had named her Juicy and I didn't like that name. So I had to come up with something that sounded familiar. So I named her Luci Chevonne. |

Luma is named after a character in a Nintendo video game. I wanted something that my BF would like but that was still cute. I love her name. She is my little shooting star :) We picked Rosie's name a few weeks before she was due to come home with us. She is named after my grandma. Strangely enough my grandma passed away a few days before we were going to pick Rosie up from the breeder. That change of plans led to us bringing her home the day after my gma passed. It really helped me cope with not being able to be there with my family to have my little Rosie home with me while I was on grievance leave from work. |

Jasmin was the name we picked out for a future child. Since we decided to put that off. We decided to give it to our doggy. She is our princess. Now the problem is picking a new name for the future child. Hehe |
Simba is of course named after the lion king!!! Hahahah, big personality in a small package :P And he's like a kitty sometimes |
Lion King is hands down one of my favorite movies from childhood, and still love it. We thought Simba was the perfect fit for our little guy (matched his personality too). When we got our little girl we mutually agreed that no other name then Nala would work for her. =] |
Yoshi comes from the Video game Super Mario brothers...he was a boy dinosaur so everyone automatically thinks she's a boy! She is learning to JUMP which is one of the main things the character is known for! |
I love reading all of your stories on how you named your little boys and girls. When I got my first yorkie my daughter was little and we just keep throwing names out and the one she repeated became her name, and that name was Bailey. My new little girl, we just wrote down names we liked and then narrowed it down. We finally decided on Isabella and call her Izzy for short. |
dog We named our dog Bear. He went into the pantry one day and took out a large potato and carried it to his bed. So we had to change his name to SPUD. It fits him because his has big floppy ears and looks like a big tatoe! |
Our 6 yr old grandson helped us in naming our yorkie....he knows we are die hard Green Bay Packer fans and suggested 'Packer'...we stayed in the same theme and decided that Lambeau was just right!! |
I named our first two, my daughter named our third and out fourth was a little harder. None of us could agree on a name so we each put two names in and drew names out of a hat. It just so happened that both of her names first and middle (of course) where my husband choices. So he was very happy . . and that is how we got our Ruby Bella !! :D Both were from his stupid Sy-Fi show Super Natural. |

When my wife and I met our 1st Yorkie, the name Megan popped into both our heads at the same time. With Gina, the breeder had all the puppies named, and we just couldn't come up with a better one, although we do call her Gina Boo, along with some assorted others, depending on the situation. Cheers Quad & Gina:aimeeyork |
