| depends on what human food you mean. nothing fatty and there is a list of things yorkies should not have toxic. grapes, garlic, olives are top of the listhttp://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...oods-dogs.html. i do give my veggies they love green peppers, carrots and peas. I also will boil plain chicken once in awhile and break it up small and add to their kibble to mix it up a bit.

My furkids Donating Member | Hi! I know a lot of people on here home cook for their pups. I BELIEVE there is a sticky for recipe's for home cooking for your pups. I wouldn't feed just human food to them .....there are ingredients in dog food that they need that they don't get from human food...AND....once you start feeding them people food they may not want to eat dog food. Also....some human food isn't good for dogs...you should google to find the list of foods....or there may be a list on here......somewhere!

I leave down a bowl of Royal Canin kibble for him to graze on, which he does during the evening.... It all sounds a bit of a fiasco, but I make up enough for a week, and freeze into portions what I'm not going to use in the next couple of days. Good luck! Sally + Harry x | |

Donating YT 4000 Club Member | Not all human food is bad, but it's best to check with your vet or a veterinary nutritionist before giving it. As a rule, if its processed, avoid it (hot dogs, ham, snack foods). Surprisingly, some foods that you think would be ok can be extremely dangerous. Grapes and raisins, for example, can cause kidney failure very quickly.

Do you cook your food fresh everyday or do you make a lot...freeze and thaw to heat as you need it? Just curious. Some days I think I might want to start cooking for Jasper but, I don't know that I could everyday. Hugs to you and Harry from us.

| Of course human food is not bad for dogs, with a few exceptions. It is never safe to feed onions, garlic, grapes, raising, chocolate, macadamia nuts to dogs as these items are toxic to dogs. But, it is not a good idea to feed fatty table scraps to dogs as some have sensitive digestive systems (especially yorkies). One incidence of pancreatitis if severe can run $1200 and up! So it isn't worth it to be using a dog as a garbage can. If you want to feed human food to your dog, however, you should know that this year in January 2013, there was a published article in a veterinary journal that analyzed home cooked diets. Almost all the diets analyzed were shown to lack many required and essential nutrients that a dog needs. Only a few diets that were analyzed were shown to be nutritionally complete and balanced, and those diets were made by veterinarians with advanced training in nutrition. If you would like to home cook for your dog, for about $25, a vet nutritionist run site is PetDiets - VNC putting your pet's health first .. for more than 20 yrs! and I personally have used this doctor for my dogs many times. The diets there are complete and balanced and very easy to prepare. In addition, the company BalanceIt has a website www.balanceit.com where you can design and download free recipes for your dog that use their all-in-one-supplement product.

| Well, a lot of human food is really toxic even to humans, however, there is a lot of human food that is very nutritious and you will find on a good pet food ingredient list as well. There are a few fruits like raisins and grapes and veggies like onions and possibly garlic that are definite no nos for dogs but most fresh meats, fruits and veggies are good for your pets in proper quantities. |

| As ppl already said. Human food isn't bad. Certain foods are bad. If you feed spicy or seasoned foods its bad. But imo a balance homemade food recipe is better then the processed kibble you can get imo. Fresh food will always be better for any creature. |

| Yup, everyone else already said the good stuff. I feed on occasion little bits of chicken, he gets some mozzarella low fat cheese during agility practice, he gets a little bit of turkey whenever we have it. If I make eggs, I make him some plain scrambled eggs as well and mix it in with his food. Things like that, but nothing is an every day occurrence. But I think the word "people food" became a dirty wood in the pet world and people took 'table scraps' so literally. Obviously using your dog as a trash can is stupid and could cause problems in the long run (as I learned) but almost anything that is processed and bad for us is going to be bad for them, and *almost* anything that is good for us (with the exceptions posted above) are going to be good for them.

| I like donuts. They certainly aren't good for my waistline, but Bailey can't have any. He loves a little turkey on occasion. He like the little small tomatoes that we feed to our turtles. He's so brave he goes and snatches them from their mouths. It's rather funny to watch. Primarily, he eats his kibble and his "cookies" for making a potty. |

| When you say human food what are you referring to? Meats, eggs and berries are fine I wouldn't feed them from the table while I'm eating my dinner. You can feed meats raw or cooked but only raw bones and not the weight bearing bones, stay away from smoked bones also. I wouldn't feed them too many vegetables, dogs systems cannot process fibre and chlorofyll from plants (they eat grass, comes out the same as it went in). Nothing seasoned with salt and pepper, garlic or onions. Someone posted a link not to long ago of things you cannot feed a dog that are poisonous (grapes, onions, tomato plants large amounts of garlic). Stay away from carbs, dogs don't need them, rice, pasta, anything soy, grains, wheat or gluten |
